4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to replace the activated carbon block filter in your H2O Distributors 4-Stage Reverse Osmosis System:

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate the cold water supply valve to your RO system and turn it off. Also, close the shut-off valve on the RO storage tank.
  2. Depressurize System: Open the RO faucet to release any pressure in the system. Allow water to drain until the flow stops.
  3. Remove Filter Housings: Use a filter wrench (if necessary) to unscrew the filter housings. Place a towel or bucket underneath to catch any residual water.
  4. Remove Old Filters: Carefully remove the old carbon block filter from its housing. Dispose of the old filter responsibly.
  5. Clean Housings: Clean the inside of the filter housings with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Inspect and replace O-rings if they are damaged or worn. Lubricate O-rings with food-grade silicone grease if needed.
  6. Insert New Filter: Unwrap a new Denali Pure Activated Carbon Block Filter. Insert it into the appropriate filter housing, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  7. Reassemble Housings: Screw the filter housing back onto the system head. Hand-tighten, then use a filter wrench for a snug fit, but do not overtighten.
  8. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the cold water supply valve to the RO system. Check for leaks around the filter housings.
  9. Flush System: Open the RO faucet and allow the system to flush for at least 10-15 minutes to remove any carbon fines and air. Close the RO faucet and open the storage tank valve. Allow the tank to fill completely (this may take 2-4 hours). Drain the tank once more through the RO faucet. The system is now ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and flushed, the Denali Pure Activated Carbon Block Filter operates automatically as part of your reverse osmosis system. Water will flow through the filter, reducing chlorine taste and odor, and sediment before further purification by the RO membrane.

For optimal performance, ensure your RO system's storage tank is adequately pressurized and that the RO faucet is closed when not in use to allow the tank to fill.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the continued performance of your reverse osmosis system and the quality of your drinking water.

  • Filter Replacement: The Denali Pure Activated Carbon Block Filter should be replaced every 6 months or after filtering approximately 1,000 gallons of water, whichever comes first. This ensures consistent water quality and protects the RO membrane from premature fouling.
  • System Inspection: Periodically check all connections and hoses for any signs of leaks or damage.
  • Sanitization: Consider sanitizing your RO system annually, especially during filter changes, to prevent bacterial growth. Refer to your RO system's specific manual for sanitization procedures.

7. Troubleshooting

Low Water Flow from Faucet:

  • Clogged Filters: Filters may be overdue for replacement. Replace the carbon block filter and other pre-filters as recommended.
  • Low Tank Pressure: Check the air pressure in the RO storage tank. It should typically be 5-7 psi when empty.
  • Kinked Tubing: Inspect all tubing for kinks or obstructions.

Unpleasant Taste or Odor:

  • Expired Carbon Filter: The carbon filter's ability to remove taste and odor diminishes over time. Replace the carbon block filter.
  • System Contamination: The system may require sanitization.

Leaks:

  • Loose Connections: Ensure all fittings and filter housings are properly tightened.
  • Damaged O-rings: Inspect O-rings for cracks or wear and replace if necessary. Ensure they are properly seated and lubricated.
