1. Introduction
This user manual provides detailed instructions for the Uniden DFR5 Long Range Radar/Laser Detection device. 3. Setup
3.1 Mounting the Device
The Uniden DFR5 can be mounted on your vehicle's windshield using the provided suction mount. Ensure the device is positioned to have a clear view of the road ahead and behind for optimal detection. The mount attaches securely to the top of the detector.

3.2 Connecting Power
Connect the DC charging cable to the device and plug it into your vehicle's 12V accessory outlet. The device will power on automatically. The charging cable includes a mute button and an additional USB port for charging other devices.
3.3 Initial Power-On and Self-Test
Upon powering on, the DFR5 performs a self-test, displaying various information such as detected bands (X, K, Ka, Laser), current speed, and GPS connection status. This sequence confirms the device is functioning correctly.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Basic Controls
- Power/Volume: Located on the side of the device, this knob turns the unit on/off and adjusts the alert volume.
- CITY/HIGHWAY Button: Toggles between City mode (reduced sensitivity for fewer false alerts in urban areas) and Highway mode (full sensitivity for maximum range).
- MUTE/DIM Button: Briefly press to mute an alert. Hold to adjust display brightness (Dim).
- MENU Button: Accesses the device settings. Use the up/down arrows to navigate.
- MARK Button: Allows users to mark specific locations (Points of Interest) to reduce false alerts or identify speed camera zones.

4.2 Display Information
The easy-to-read dot matrix display shows critical information:
- Speed: Your current vehicle speed (requires GPS connection).
- Band: Indicates the type of detected radar or laser signal (X, K, Ka, Laser).
- Signal Strength: Visual representation of the signal's intensity.
- Direction: Arrows indicate the direction of the detected threat.
- GPS Status: Shows if GPS is connected and active.

4.3 Menu Navigation and Settings
Press the MENU button to access various settings. Use the up/down arrow buttons to scroll through options and the MENU button again to select. Customizable options include:
- RLC Q-Ride (Red Light Camera Quiet Ride)
- POI PassChime (Point of Interest Pass Chime)
- Redlight Cam (Enable/Disable Red Light Camera alerts)
- Speed Camera (Enable/Disable Speed Camera alerts)
- Ka Freq Voice (Voice announcements for Ka band frequencies)
- Adjusting signal strength levels (8 levels available) to minimize false alerts from automatic store doors or other non-police radar sources.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Device
To maintain optimal performance, regularly clean the exterior of your DFR5 with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the front and rear radar/laser sensors are free from dirt and obstructions.
5.2 Suction Mount Care
Periodically clean the suction cups and the windshield surface to ensure a strong, secure mount. If the suction cups lose their grip, clean them with warm, soapy water and allow them to air dry.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 No Power
- Check the DC charging cable connection to both the device and the vehicle's 12V accessory outlet.
- Ensure the vehicle's accessory outlet is receiving power.
- Verify the power/volume knob is turned on.
6.2 Excessive False Alerts
- Switch to City mode in urban areas to reduce sensitivity.
- Adjust the signal strength levels in the menu settings.
- Use the MARK feature to store and filter out known false alert locations.
6.3 No GPS Signal
- Ensure the device has a clear view of the sky.
- Allow a few minutes for the device to acquire a GPS signal, especially after initial power-on or moving to a new location.
