Setup and Installation
The Safety 1st Easy Install Auto-Close Gate is a pressure-mounted gate designed for openings between 29 and 38 inches wide. It stands 28 inches tall.

Figure 1: Gate Dimensions. The gate is 28 inches high and fits openings from 29 to 38 inches wide.
- Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage or missing parts.
- Position the Gate: Place the gate in the desired opening. The gate will initially have a gap at the latch mechanism; this is normal for pressure-mounted gates and will close as tension is applied.
- Adjust Tension Bolts: Rotate the tension adjustment bolts at each corner of the gate until the gate is snug against the door frame or wall. Ensure the gate is level.
- Install Wall Cups: Once the gate is snug, mark the positions for the wall cups. Remove the gate temporarily, attach the wall cups to the wall or door frame using the provided screws (if applicable, or strong adhesive for non-drilling applications as per product instructions). Re-position the gate so the tension bolts rest inside the wall cups.
- Final Tightening: Continue to tighten the tension adjustment bolts evenly until the gate is firmly secured and the gap at the latch mechanism is minimal or closed. The SecureTech indicator (see Operating Instructions) should show green when properly locked.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the gate with a mild soap and damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. The gate is not dishwasher safe.
- Regular Checks: Periodically check all parts for wear, damage, or loose connections. Ensure the tension bolts are tight and the gate remains securely mounted.
- Lubrication: If the latch mechanism becomes stiff, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the moving parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Gate does not close or latch properly. | Insufficient tension; gate not aligned; obstruction. | Tighten tension bolts evenly until the SecureTech indicator shows green. Ensure no objects are blocking the gate's path. |
| SecureTech indicator shows red when closed. | Gate is not fully locked or tension is too loose. | Push the gate firmly to ensure it latches. Tighten tension bolts further until the indicator turns green. |
| Gate feels loose or wobbly. | Tension bolts are not tight enough; wall cups not installed. | Retighten all four tension bolts. Ensure wall cups are installed and the gate is seated within them. |
| Latch is difficult to open or stiff. | Mechanism needs lubrication; gate overtightened. | Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the latch mechanism. If overtightened, slightly loosen the tension bolts. |
