Setup and Assembly

1. Battery Installation: Insert the fully charged 20V MAX* POWERCONNECT battery into the tool's battery port until it clicks securely into place. The kit includes two 1.5 Ah 20V MAX* POWERCONNECT batteries for backup power.
2. Adjusting the Shaft (Trimmer/Edger): The string trimmer features an adjustable shaft for customizable comfort and control. Loosen the locking collar, extend or retract the shaft to your desired length, and then tighten the collar to secure it.
3. Attaching the Guard (Trimmer/Edger): Ensure the guard is securely attached to the trimmer head before operation to protect against debris.
4. AFS Automatic Feed Spool: The trimmer is equipped with an AFS Automatic Feed Spool, which continuously feeds the trimmer line without manual bumping.
5. Sweeper Assembly: Attach the blow tube to the sweeper unit as per the instructions provided in the separate sweeper manual.

Operating Instructions

Learn how to effectively use your 2-in-1 string trimmer/edger and sweeper:

String Trimmer/Edger Operation

1. Starting the Trimmer: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Press the safety lock-off button and then squeeze the trigger to start the trimmer.
2. Trimming: Hold the trimmer comfortably with both hands. Move the trimmer in a sweeping motion, keeping the cutting line parallel to the ground. The 10-inch cutting width allows for efficient trimming of overgrowth.
3. Edging: The 2-in-1 design allows for easy conversion to an edger. Simply rotate the trimmer head 180 degrees. Use the built-in guide to maintain a consistent edging line along sidewalks and driveways.
4. Adjustable Handle: Utilize the soft-grip handle and adjustable height feature to find the most comfortable operating position.

Sweeper Operation

1. Starting the Sweeper: Insert a charged 20V MAX* POWERCONNECT battery into the sweeper. Squeeze the trigger to activate the airflow.
2. Clearing Debris: Use the lightweight sweeper to clear grass clippings, leaves, and other debris from driveways, sidewalks, decks, and garages. Its quiet operation minimizes noise while you work.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your tools:

• Cleaning: After each use, disconnect the battery and clean the tools with a damp cloth. Remove any accumulated grass, dirt, or debris from the trimmer head and sweeper nozzle.
• Trimmer Line Replacement: The AFS Automatic Feed Spool system simplifies line replacement. Refer to the detailed instructions in the separate trimmer manual for specific steps on how to replace the filament. Replacement spools are widely available.
• Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not expose them to extreme temperatures. Charge batteries fully before storage and periodically during long periods of inactivity.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BLACK+DECKER combo kit, refer to the following common solutions:

• Tool Not Starting: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Check that the safety lock-off button is pressed before squeezing the trigger.
• Trimmer Line Not Feeding: Verify that the AFS spool is correctly installed and that there is sufficient line on the spool. Clear any debris from the trimmer head that might be obstructing the line feed mechanism.
• Reduced Power/Run Time: This typically indicates a low battery charge. Recharge the battery fully. If the issue persists, the battery may need to be replaced.
