2. Important Safety Instructions
When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using this sewing machine.
- Keep these instructions in a convenient place near the machine.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, always unplug the machine from the electrical outlet immediately after using and before cleaning, removing covers, or making any user servicing adjustments.
- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when this sewing machine is used by or near children.
- Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Use only attachments recommended by the manufacturer as contained in this manual.
- Never operate this sewing machine if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water.

4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the machine from its packaging. Place the sewing machine on a stable, flat surface. Ensure there is adequate lighting and space for comfortable operation. Keep the packaging materials for future storage or transport.
4.2 Power Connection
Connect the foot controller plug to the machine's jack and the power cord to the electrical outlet. Ensure the machine's power switch is in the OFF position before connecting to power.
4.3 Needle Installation
To install a new needle, ensure the machine is turned off and unplugged. Loosen the needle clamp screw, insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back, and push it up as far as it will go. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

4.4 Bobbin Winding
Place a spool of thread on the spool pin. Guide the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle and push it to the right. Press the foot controller gently to wind the bobbin. Stop when the bobbin is full and push the spindle back to the left.
4.5 Threading the Machine
For proper stitching, both the upper thread and bobbin thread must be correctly installed. Follow the numbered threading path indicated on the machine for the upper thread. For the bobbin, open the bobbin cover, insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds counter-clockwise, and guide the thread through the tension spring. Replace the bobbin cover.

5. Operation
5.1 Stitch Selection
The Janome MOD-15 offers 15 built-in stitches. To select a stitch, turn the stitch selector dial (labeled 'A' on the machine) to the desired stitch pattern. Refer to the stitch chart on the machine for available options, including straight stitches, zigzag stitches, and decorative patterns.
5.2 Stitch Length and Zigzag Width Adjustment
Adjust the stitch length using the stitch length dial (labeled 'B' on the machine). For zigzag stitches, the zigzag width can also be adjusted using the same dial or a dedicated width control if present. Experiment with different settings on scrap fabric to achieve the desired stitch appearance.
5.3 Sewing Basics
Place your fabric under the presser foot, aligning the edge with the seam guide on the needle plate. Lower the presser foot lever. Gently press the foot controller to begin sewing. Guide the fabric smoothly without pulling or pushing. Use the reverse lever for backstitching at the beginning and end of seams to secure stitches.

5.4 Four-Step Buttonhole Function
The Janome MOD-15 includes a four-step buttonhole function. Attach the buttonhole foot. Select the first step of the buttonhole on the stitch selector dial. Sew the first side, then proceed to the subsequent steps as indicated in the stitch chart to complete the buttonhole. Practice on scrap fabric to perfect the technique.
5.5 Free Arm Usage
To use the free arm, slide off the accessory box. The free arm allows you to sew cylindrical items such as sleeves, cuffs, and pant hems with ease. Simply slip the item over the free arm before sewing.
5.6 Drop Feed System
The 5-piece feed dog system can be dropped for darning, free-motion quilting, or embroidery. Locate the drop feed lever (usually at the back or side of the needle plate area) and move it to the 'drop' position. Remember to raise the feed dogs back up for regular sewing.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining your sewing machine's performance. Always unplug the machine before cleaning. Use a dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. For the bobbin area and feed dogs, use the provided lint brush to remove lint and thread scraps. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
6.2 Storage
When not in use, store your Janome MOD-15 in a dry, dust-free environment. It is recommended to cover the machine with a dust cover to protect it from dust and debris.
