4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Mounting the Amplifier

The MR4.1400D amplifier is designed for surface mounting. Choose a secure location that provides adequate ventilation and protection from direct water exposure. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the amplifier's weight.

  • Mark the mounting holes using the amplifier as a template.
  • Drill pilot holes if necessary.
  • Secure the amplifier using appropriate screws.

4.2. Wiring Connections

4.2.1. Power Connections

  • GND (Ground): Connect to a clean, solid chassis ground point. Use a wire of the same gauge as the power wire.
  • REM (Remote Turn-On): Connect to the remote turn-on output of your head unit.
  • DC12V (Power): Connect directly to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery. An inline fuse (not supplied) should be installed within 18 inches of the battery.

The amplifier uses 4-gauge power input terminals and 12-gauge speaker output terminals.

4.2.2. Speaker Output Connections

Connect your speakers to the "SPEAKER OUT" terminals. The amplifier supports 2-ohm stereo and 4-ohm bridged configurations. Refer to the markings on the amplifier for correct positive and negative connections for each channel (Front and Rear) and for bridged mode.

4.2.3. Signal Input Connections

The amplifier supports both low-level RCA input and high-level input.

  • Low-Level Input (RCA): Connect RCA cables from your head unit's pre-amp outputs to the "LOW-INPUT" RCA jacks on the amplifier (Front and Rear).
  • High-Level Input: If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, use the supplied quick disconnect high-level wire harness. Connect the speaker wires from your head unit to the corresponding wires on the harness, then plug the harness into the "HI-INPUT" ports on the amplifier.

5. Operating the Amplifier

5.1. Initial Power-Up

Once all connections are made and verified, turn on your head unit. The amplifier should power on automatically via the remote turn-on signal. Observe the power indicator light on the amplifier.

5.2. Adjusting Controls

The MR4.1400D features variable 12dB High Pass, Low Pass, and Subsonic Crossovers, as well as a 12dB Bass Boost.

  • X-OVER (Crossover):
    • HPF (High Pass Filter): Used for full-range speakers to block low frequencies. Adjust the knob to set the cutoff frequency.
    • LPF (Low Pass Filter): Used for subwoofers to block high frequencies. Adjust the knob to set the cutoff frequency.
    • FLAT: Bypasses the crossover, allowing full-range audio to pass through.
  • Bass Boost: Adjust this control to increase low octave harmonics for enhanced bass response. Use sparingly to avoid distortion.
  • Gain Control: Adjust the gain to match the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until you achieve a clear, undistorted sound at your desired volume level.
  • HI-INPUT AUTO TURN ON: If using high-level inputs, this switch enables the amplifier to turn on automatically when it detects an audio signal.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your amplifier:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the amplifier with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  • Connections: Regularly check all power, ground, and speaker connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's heatsink fins are free from dust and debris to maintain proper cooling.
