3. Product Overview
The TL-WPA8630 KIT consists of two main devices: the TL-PA8010P Powerline Adapter and the TL-WPA8630 Wi-Fi Extender.
3.1 TL-PA8010P Powerline Adapter
This adapter plugs into a wall outlet near your router and connects to the router via an Ethernet cable. It transmits network data over your home's electrical wiring. It features a pass-through power socket, allowing you to plug in other electrical devices.
3.2 TL-WPA8630 Wi-Fi Extender
This unit plugs into a wall outlet in another room and receives the network signal through the powerline. It then broadcasts a dual-band AC1200 Wi-Fi signal and provides three fast Ethernet ports for wired connections. It also includes a Wi-Fi Clone button for easy network synchronization.

4. Setup
4.1 Basic Installation (Plug and Play)
- Plug in the TL-PA8010P Powerline Adapter: Plug the TL-PA8010P into a wall outlet near your router. Do not use a power strip or surge protector, as this can interfere with performance.
- Connect to Router: Use one of the provided Ethernet cables to connect the TL-PA8010P to an available LAN port on your router.
- Plug in the TL-WPA8630 Wi-Fi Extender: Plug the TL-WPA8630 into a wall outlet in the room where you need Wi-Fi coverage. Ensure it is within the range of your existing powerline network.
- Wait for Connection: Wait for the Powerline LED on both devices to turn solid green, indicating a successful powerline connection.

- When the Powerline LED on both devices turns solid green, the pairing process is complete.
4.3 Wi-Fi Clone Button
The Wi-Fi Clone button simplifies configuration by automatically copying your router’s network name (SSID) and password to the TL-WPA8630. This creates a unified Wi-Fi network, allowing devices to roam seamlessly.
- Place the TL-WPA8630 near your router.
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- Within two minutes, press the Wi-Fi Clone button on the TL-WPA8630. The Wi-Fi LED on the extender will blink during the cloning process.
- Once the Wi-Fi LED on the TL-WPA8630 turns solid, the cloning is complete. You can now move the TL-WPA8630 to your desired location.
4.4 Connecting Wired Devices
The TL-WPA8630 Wi-Fi Extender features three fast Ethernet ports. You can connect devices such as smart TVs, game consoles, and PCs directly to these ports using Ethernet cables for a stable wired connection.
5. Operating the Device
5.1 LED Indicators
The devices have LED indicators that provide information about their status:
| LED Name | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Power | Solid Green | Device is powered on. |
| Blinking Green | Pairing in progress. | |
| Powerline | Solid Green | Connected to a powerline network. |
| Off | Not connected to a powerline network. | |
| Wi-Fi (TL-WPA8630 only) | Solid Green | Wi-Fi is enabled. |
| Blinking Green | Wi-Fi Clone in progress. | |
| Off | Wi-Fi is disabled. |
5.2 Network Management with tpPLC App
You can manage your network settings and monitor your powerline devices using the TP-Link tpPLC app, available for Android and iOS devices. This app allows you to view connected devices, manage Wi-Fi settings, and configure powerline network options.
5.3 Power Saving Mode
When not in active use, each adapter is designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 85%, contributing to energy efficiency.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Optimal Placement
For best performance, plug the powerline adapters directly into wall outlets. Avoid plugging them into power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords, as these can degrade powerline signal quality and reduce performance.
6.2 Cleaning
To clean the devices, disconnect them from the power outlet and wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 No Powerline Connection
- Ensure both powerline adapters are plugged directly into wall outlets, not power strips or surge protectors.
- Verify that both devices are powered on.
- Try pairing the devices again as described in Section 4.2.
- Ensure the electrical circuits are compatible. Powerline devices work best on the same electrical circuit.
7.2 Slow Network Speed
- Avoid plugging adapters into power strips or surge protectors.
- Electrical interference from other appliances (e.g., washing machines, refrigerators) can affect performance. Try plugging the adapters into different outlets.
- Older home wiring can impact powerline speeds.
- Ensure your main router's internet speed is adequate.
7.3 Wi-Fi Clone Not Working
- Ensure the TL-WPA8630 is close to your router during the cloning process.
- Verify that your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) and that its WPS function is enabled.
- If cloning fails, you can manually configure the Wi-Fi settings of the TL-WPA8630 via the tpPLC app or web interface to match your router's Wi-Fi.
