Installation Guide
The NHN PDC103W-S is designed for concealed installation within the door and frame. Careful measurement and preparation are essential for proper function.
1. Pre-Installation Checks
- Ensure the door width is between 29-1/2 to 37-3/8 inches (750 to 950 mm).
- The door thickness must be at least 1-9/16 inches (40 mm).
- The door weight should be between 60 to 100 kg.
- Gather necessary tools: measuring tape, pencil, drill, router (recommended for wood doors), chisel, plumb line, level, screwdrivers.
2. Preparing the Door and Frame
Refer to the provided mounting dimensions diagram for precise cut-out requirements. All dimensions are critical for correct operation.

- Door Cut-out: Create a recess in the bottom edge of the door to house the main body of the closer. This typically requires routing or chiseling.
- Floor Plate Recess: Prepare a suitable cut-out or mounting area on the floor directly beneath the door's pivot point for the floor plate. Ensure this is level and securely anchored.
- Top Pivot Installation: Install the top pivot into the top edge of the door and the corresponding bracket in the door frame. Ensure the top pivot is properly aligned with the floor hinge.

3. Mounting the Closer Unit
- Carefully insert the door closer unit into the prepared recess in the door.
- Secure the unit using the provided screws.
- Attach the floor plate to the floor, ensuring it is perfectly aligned with the closer unit in the door. Use appropriate anchors for your floor type.
- Connect the door to the floor plate and top pivot.
Operating and Adjustment
The PDC103W-S features adjustable closing speed and a 90-degree hold-open function (for models with this feature).

Image: A chart detailing the functions and adjustments for the NHN PDC100W series, including maximum door width, weight, opening angle, and speed adjustment points.
- Closing Speed Adjustment: The closing speed is controlled by two independent adjustment valves (No.1 and No.2 as indicated in the diagram).
- Valve No.1 controls the main closing speed (150° to 10°).
- Valve No.2 controls the latching speed (10° to 0°), which is the final closing action.
- Turn the adjustment screws slightly counter-clockwise to decrease speed (slower closing) and clockwise to increase speed (faster closing). Make small adjustments and test the door's closing action.
- Hold Open Function (PDC103WS model): For models with the hold-open feature, the door will remain open at 90 degrees. To disengage, simply push the door slightly past 90 degrees or pull it closed.
- Opening Resistance: The closer is designed for low opening resistance. If the door feels too stiff to open, re-check installation alignment and ensure no obstructions. There is no direct adjustment for overall opening tension.
Maintenance
The NHN PDC103W-S concealed door closer is designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation. However, periodic checks can ensure optimal performance:
- Cleaning: Wipe visible parts with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lubrication: The internal mechanism is factory-lubricated and sealed. No additional lubrication is required.
- Fastener Check: Periodically check all mounting screws and anchors for tightness. Re-tighten if necessary to prevent wobbling or misalignment.
- Performance Check: Observe the door's closing action. If it becomes too fast, too slow, or inconsistent, refer to the "Operating and Adjustment" section for re-calibration.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Door does not close fully. | Latching speed (Valve No.2) is too slow; obstruction; misalignment. | Increase latching speed slightly. Check for physical obstructions. Verify door and closer alignment. |
| Door closes too fast/slams. | Closing speed (Valve No.1) or latching speed (Valve No.2) is too fast. | Decrease closing and/or latching speed by turning adjustment screws counter-clockwise. |
| Door is difficult to open. | Misalignment; incorrect installation; door closer tension too high (though not directly adjustable). | Re-check installation alignment. Ensure the door swings freely without the closer engaged (if possible). If problem persists, professional assistance may be required. |
| Door does not hold open at 90 degrees (for WS model). | Not a hold-open model; mechanism issue. | Verify you have the "WS" (Hold Open) model. If so, contact support. |
