3. Setup and Installation
- Power Off: Ensure your turntable is powered off and unplugged from the electrical outlet before beginning installation.
- Locate Old Stylus: Carefully identify the existing stylus on your turntable's cartridge.
- Remove Old Stylus: Gently grasp the old stylus assembly and pull it forward and down, or as per your turntable's specific instructions, to detach it from the cartridge. Avoid touching the cantilever or tip.
- Install New Stylus: Align the new Durpower replacement stylus with the cartridge. Push it gently upwards and backwards until it clicks securely into place. Do not force the stylus.
- Verify Installation: Visually inspect the stylus to ensure it is seated correctly and firmly within the cartridge. The cantilever should be straight and the diamond tip visible.
- Balance Tonearm (if applicable): If your turntable requires tonearm balancing after stylus replacement, refer to your turntable's user manual for specific instructions.
Note: Always handle the stylus with extreme care. Avoid touching the diamond tip or cantilever, as this can cause damage and affect sound quality.
4. Operating Instructions
Once the new stylus is installed, your turntable is ready for operation. Ensure you select the correct speed (33 or 45 RPM) for the record you are playing. Gently lower the tonearm onto the record's lead-in groove. Avoid dropping the tonearm, as this can damage both the stylus and the record.
5. Maintenance
- Stylus Cleaning: Regularly clean the stylus tip to remove dust and debris. Use a soft stylus brush, brushing gently from back to front (in the direction of play). Do not brush side-to-side.
- Record Cleaning: Keep your records clean to minimize dust transfer to the stylus.
- Stylus Inspection: Periodically inspect the stylus tip for wear or damage. A worn stylus can damage records and degrade sound quality. Replace the stylus if wear is evident or if sound quality diminishes significantly.
6. Troubleshooting
- Poor Sound Quality / Distortion:
- Ensure the stylus is clean and free of debris.
- Verify the stylus is correctly seated in the cartridge.
- Check for proper tonearm tracking force (refer to your turntable manual).
- Skipping:
- Ensure records are clean and free of dust or scratches.
- Verify the turntable is on a stable, level surface.
- Check for proper tonearm tracking force and anti-skate settings (refer to your turntable manual).
- No Sound:
- Confirm all audio connections from the turntable to your amplifier/receiver are secure.
