4. Setup & Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your Hydronix CB6 Carbon Block Water Filter. It is recommended to refer to your specific filter system's manual for housing-specific instructions.

Installation Steps:

  1. Turn Off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home or the specific valve for your under-sink water filter system and turn it off.
  2. Relieve Pressure: Open the filtered water faucet to release any remaining water pressure in the system. Allow water to drain until the flow stops.
  3. Remove Old Filter: Unscrew the filter housing sump using a filter wrench (if necessary). Carefully remove the old filter cartridge.
  4. Clean Housing: Clean the inside of the filter housing with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Inspect the O-rings for cracks or wear and replace if necessary. Lubricate O-rings with a silicone-based lubricant if needed.
  5. Insert New Filter: Remove the new Hydronix CB6 filter from its packaging. Insert the new filter into the housing, ensuring it is centered and seated correctly. The threaded end should align with the housing's cap.
  6. Secure Housing: Carefully screw the filter housing sump back onto the cap. Caution: Ensure the threads are aligned properly to avoid cross-threading, which can damage the housing and cause leaks. Hand-tighten the sump, then use a filter wrench for an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn to ensure a snug, leak-free seal. Do not overtighten.
  7. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply valve. Check for any leaks around the filter housing. If leaks occur, turn off the water, relieve pressure, and re-tighten the housing.
  8. Flush System: Open the filtered water faucet and allow water to run for at least 10-15 minutes to flush out any carbon fines and trapped air. The water may appear cloudy or discolored initially; this is normal. Continue flushing until the water runs clear and any air bubbles subside.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and flushed, your Hydronix CB6 filter is ready for use. The filter operates passively as water flows through your system.

  • Initial Use: After flushing, the water should run clear and taste fresh.
  • Daily Use: Use your filtered water as needed for drinking, cooking, and other purposes.
  • Flow Rate: The filter may slightly reduce water flow compared to unfiltered water. A significant drop in flow rate may indicate the filter is nearing the end of its life or is clogged.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance, primarily filter replacement, is crucial for optimal performance and water quality.

Filter Replacement:

  • The Hydronix CB6 filter has a capacity of approximately 750 gallons.
  • Replace the filter every 6-12 months, or sooner if you notice a significant decrease in water flow, a return of unpleasant tastes or odors, or if your water quality dictates more frequent changes.
  • Refer to the "Setup & Installation" section for detailed steps on replacing the filter.

Note: Filter life can vary based on local water quality and usage volume.
