AudioOrigin Headshell, Cartridge, and Stylus Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your AudioOrigin headshell, cartridge, and stylus assembly. This product is designed to deliver high-quality audio reproduction from your vinyl records when used with compatible Sanyo turntables.

2. Setup and Installation

Careful installation is essential for optimal performance. Please follow these steps to properly install the headshell and cartridge assembly onto your turntable's tonearm.

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the headshell and cartridge assembly from its packaging. Avoid touching the stylus (needle) directly.
2. Tonearm Preparation: Ensure your turntable is powered off and unplugged. If an old headshell is present, gently twist and remove it from the tonearm.
3. Attaching the Headshell: Align the pins on the rear of the AudioOrigin headshell with the corresponding receptacles on your turntable's tonearm. Gently push and twist the headshell clockwise until it is securely seated. The connection should be firm but not forced.

4. Wiring (Pre-wired): This AudioOrigin assembly comes pre-wired with gold-plated (OFC) wires for optimal signal transfer. Ensure these wires are not pinched or damaged during installation. The wires connect the cartridge to the headshell's pins.

5. Stylus Protection: The cartridge comes with a protective stylus guard. Ensure this guard is in place during installation to prevent accidental damage to the stylus. Remove it only when you are ready to play a record.

6. Alignment and Tracking Force: For optimal sound and to prevent record wear, it is recommended to verify the cartridge alignment and set the tracking force according to your turntable's specifications. Refer to your turntable's user manual for specific instructions on these adjustments. The cartridge is secured with top-mounted screw fittings.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the headshell and cartridge are correctly installed and aligned, you can begin playing your records.

1. Power On: Turn on your turntable and audio amplifier.
2. Remove Stylus Guard: Carefully remove the red stylus protector from the cartridge. Store it in a safe place.
3. Place Record: Place a vinyl record on the turntable platter.
4. Lower Tonearm: Use the tonearm lift lever to gently lower the stylus onto the record's lead-in groove. Avoid dropping the tonearm directly onto the record.
5. Adjust Volume: Adjust the volume on your amplifier to a comfortable listening level.
6. Enjoy: The AudioOrigin cartridge is designed to provide a pure, rich, and warm sound with exceptional low and high-frequency delivery.
7. After Playback: At the end of the record, use the tonearm lift lever to raise the tonearm, then return it to its rest. Replace the stylus guard for protection.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life of your stylus and preserve sound quality.

• Stylus Cleaning: Regularly clean the stylus using a soft stylus brush, brushing gently from back to front (never side-to-side or front-to-back). Use a specialized stylus cleaning fluid if necessary, following the product's instructions.
• Record Cleaning: Keep your records clean. Dust and debris on records can transfer to the stylus, degrading sound quality and potentially damaging the stylus.
• Stylus Inspection: Periodically inspect the stylus for wear or damage. A worn stylus can damage your records and produce poor sound. Replace the stylus if it appears worn or bent.
• Storage: Always replace the stylus guard when the turntable is not in use or when moving the turntable.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, consult the following common troubleshooting tips.

• No Sound or Low Volume:
  • Ensure all audio cables from the turntable to the amplifier are securely connected.
  • Verify the headshell is firmly seated in the tonearm.
  • Check amplifier input selection and volume levels.
• Distorted Sound or Skipping:
  • Check the stylus for dirt or debris and clean it if necessary.
  • Ensure the tracking force is set correctly according to your turntable's specifications.
  • Verify the cartridge alignment.
  • Inspect the stylus for damage or wear; replace if necessary.
  • Ensure records are clean and free of scratches.
• Humming Noise:
  • Ensure the turntable's ground wire (if applicable) is properly connected to your amplifier's ground terminal.
  • Check for interference from other electronic devices.
  • Verify all connections are secure.
