Model: 380001.02

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use, setup, and maintenance of your MARTOR Secunorm 380 semi-automatic retractable safety knife. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the knife to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury.

The Secunorm 380 is designed for cutting various industrial materials, featuring an 80mm (3.15 inches) blade extension for tasks requiring a longer cut. Its semi-automatic retraction mechanism enhances user safety.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Always exercise caution: Blades are extremely sharp. Handle with care.
  • Keep fingers away from the blade path: Ensure no body parts are in the line of cut.
  • Blade retraction: The Secunorm 380 features a semi-automatic retractable blade. The blade will retract into the handle automatically when contact with the cutting material is lost, provided the slider is released. Do not attempt to override this safety feature.
  • Proper storage: Store the knife in a safe place, out of reach of children and unauthorized personnel.
  • Inspect before use: Before each use, check the knife for any damage or loose parts. Do not use if damaged.
  • Use appropriate blades: Only use MARTOR-approved replacement blades for optimal performance and safety.
  • Dispose of blades safely: Used blades should be disposed of in a designated safety container.

5. Operating Instructions

The Secunorm 380 is designed for various cutting tasks with enhanced safety features.

5.1 Engaging the Blade

To extend the blade, push the blue slider forward with your thumb. The blade will extend to its maximum length of 80mm (3.15 inches).

5.2 Semi-Automatic Blade Retraction

The key safety feature of the Secunorm 380 is its semi-automatic blade retraction. As you perform a cut, maintain pressure on the slider. Once the blade loses contact with the cutting material, release your thumb from the slider, and the blade will automatically retract into the handle.

5.3 Cutting Techniques

The Secunorm 380 is suitable for cutting materials such as cardboard, plastic film, foam, and other general industrial materials.

  • Cardboard Cutting: Apply firm, even pressure. Ensure the blade extends sufficiently to cut through the material.
  • Film and Wrap Cutting: For thin materials, a lighter touch may be required. The long blade extension is beneficial for cutting through multiple layers or large rolls.
  • Foam Cutting: The extended blade allows for deeper cuts into foam materials.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Secunorm 380 knife.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the knife handle and blade channel to remove any debris or adhesive residue that may hinder blade movement. Use a dry cloth or a mild cleaning agent if necessary. Ensure the knife is completely dry before storage.
  • Blade Condition: Replace blades as soon as they become dull to maintain cutting efficiency and reduce the risk of accidents. Dull blades require more force, increasing the chance of slippage.
  • Lubrication: No special lubrication is required for the internal mechanism.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Blade does not extend smoothly: Check for debris in the blade channel. Clean the channel as described in the maintenance section. Ensure the blade is correctly installed.
  • Blade does not retract automatically: Ensure the slider is fully released after the cut. Check for any obstructions or damage to the retraction spring mechanism. If the issue persists, discontinue use and contact customer support.
  • Difficulty cutting: Replace the blade with a new, sharp one. Ensure you are using the correct cutting technique for the material.
