4. Setup

4.1 Power Connection (220V)

This unit operates on 220V power. The spot welder comes with a power cord terminated in spade lugs, not a pre-installed plug. You will need to wire an appropriate 220V plug (not included) to the cord before use. Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about this process.

4.2 Welding Tip Installation and Alignment

  1. Ensure the spot welder is disconnected from the power source.
  2. Twist the existing tips off if they are installed or need replacement.
  3. Screw on the new welding tips firmly.
  4. To align the tongs (welding arms), loosen the four bolts (two clusters, one on top and one on bottom) that secure the arms. Adjust the arms so the tips meet precisely when the lever is engaged. Note that some units may have a thin sleeve wedging the tong in place, which might require careful extraction if the tong does not budge easily.
  5. Tighten the four bolts securely once alignment is achieved.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Workpiece Preparation

For optimal weld quality, ensure that all four surfaces (front and back of both pieces of sheet metal) are clean and free from rust, paint, oil, or other contaminants.

5.2 Welding Procedure

  1. Position the metal sheets to be welded between the welding tips.
  2. Pull the operating lever to bring the tips together and apply firm pressure to the workpiece. The unit is designed to provide strong clamping pressure.
  3. Once pressure is applied, press down on the lever to initiate the welding cycle.
  4. Hold the lever down for the required duration. For general use, a weld time of 1-3 seconds is often sufficient for sheet metal. Avoid holding the lever down for more than 5 seconds continuously.
  5. Release the lever to complete the weld.

Duty Cycle: To prevent overheating and ensure longevity, adhere to a duty cycle of no more than 5 seconds on followed by 5 seconds off. Allow the unit to cool down during prolonged use.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Welding Tip Replacement

Welding tips are consumable parts and will wear down over time. Replace tips when they become pitted, flattened, or no longer produce consistent welds. Refer to Section 4.2 for replacement instructions.

6.2 Cleaning and Storage

  • Ensure the unit is unplugged and cool before cleaning.
  • Wipe down the exterior with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Store the spot welder in a dry, clean environment, away from excessive dust and moisture.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Weak or inconsistent weldsDirty workpiece surfaces; Worn or misaligned welding tips; Insufficient weld time; Incorrect pressure.Clean workpiece thoroughly; Replace or align tips; Increase weld time slightly (within duty cycle limits); Ensure firm pressure is applied.
Switch gets stuck in 'on' positionMechanical issue with the lever mechanism.Carefully inspect the lever mechanism for obstructions or damage. If the issue persists, discontinue use and contact customer support.
Unit does not power onNo power supply; Improper wiring of plug; Internal fault.Check power outlet and circuit breaker; Verify plug wiring (consult electrician); If still no power, contact customer support.
