5. Setup

5.1 Installing Batteries

The Sangean Portable AM/FM Analog Pocket Radio operates on batteries (not included). For optimal performance, use high-quality alkaline batteries.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
  3. Insert the required number of batteries (e.g., 2 x AA batteries, check compartment for specific type) according to the polarity indicators (+ and -) inside the compartment.

5.2 Attaching the Carry Strap

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Turning On/Off and Volume Control

  1. To turn on the radio, rotate the Volume Control knob clockwise until you hear a click and the radio powers on.
  2. Continue rotating the Volume Control knob to adjust the listening volume.
  3. To turn off the radio, rotate the Volume Control knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click and the radio powers off.

6.2 Tuning AM/FM Stations

  1. Select the desired band (AM or FM) using the Band Selector Switch.
  2. For FM reception, extend the Telescopic Antenna fully for best signal. For AM reception, the radio uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna, so adjust the radio's orientation for optimal signal.
  3. Slowly rotate the Tuning Dial to scan for stations.
  4. The LED Tuning Indicator will illuminate when you have tuned into a strong and clear station.
  5. Fine-tune the dial slightly for the clearest reception.

6.3 Using the Earphone Jack

For private listening, you can connect standard 3.5mm stereo earphones (not included) to the Earphone Jack. When earphones are connected, the built-in speaker will automatically mute.

  • Always turn off the radio before cleaning.
