3.2. Configuration (Router Mode)
After hardware connection, configure the router via a web browser:
- Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox) on a device connected to the router.
- Type http://tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
- Create a new password for login when prompted.
- Follow the on-screen Quick Setup wizard to configure your internet connection type (e.g., Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE) and wireless settings (SSID, password).
- Save your settings and restart the router if prompted.
3.3. Other Operation Modes
The Archer C20 can also function as an Access Point or Range Extender. These modes can be configured through the web management page or the TP-Link Tether app.
- Access Point Mode: Converts your existing wired network into a wireless one.
- Range Extender Mode: Boosts the existing wireless coverage in your home.
4. Operating the Router
Once configured, your Archer C20 router provides seamless wireless connectivity. Here are some operational aspects:
4.1. Wi-Fi On/Off Button
The router features a convenient Wi-Fi On/Off button on the rear panel. This allows you to quickly enable or disable the wireless signal without needing to access the web management interface. This is particularly useful for users who prefer to minimize wireless EMF radiation when Wi-Fi is not actively needed.
4.2. LED Indicators
The front panel of the router features LED indicators that provide status information:
- Power LED: Indicates power status.
- System LED: Indicates system activity.
- Wi-Fi LEDs (2.4GHz & 5GHz): Indicate wireless network activity for each band.
- Internet LED: Indicates internet connection status.
- Ethernet LAN LEDs: Indicate activity on the wired LAN ports.

5. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Archer C20 router, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check the TP-Link official website for the latest firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance, add new features, and enhance security.
- Proper Placement: Place the router in a central location, away from obstructions, large metal objects, and other electronic devices that may cause interference. This helps maximize wireless coverage and signal strength.
- Ventilation: Ensure the router has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not cover the ventilation holes.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the router with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.
- Security: Change the default Wi-Fi password and router login password regularly to enhance network security.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Archer C20 router, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
6.1. No Internet Access
- Verify that your modem (if applicable) is working correctly and has an active internet connection.
- Check all cable connections between the modem, router, and your devices. Ensure they are securely plugged in.
- Restart your modem and router by unplugging them from power for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in. Wait for them to fully boot up.
- Confirm your internet connection type (Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE) is correctly configured in the router's web management interface.
6.2. Poor Signal Strength or Slow Speeds
- Router Placement: Move the router to a more central location in your home, away from walls, large furniture, and other electronic devices that can cause interference.
- Interference: Cordless phones, microwave ovens, and Bluetooth devices can interfere with Wi-Fi signals. Try to minimize their use or move them away from the router.
- Channel Optimization: Access the router's web management interface and try changing the wireless channel for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Use a Wi-Fi analyzer app to find less congested channels.
- Firmware: Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
- Hardware Limitations: Note that the router's Ethernet WAN port limits internet plans greater than 100 Mbps. Maximum wireless transmission rates are theoretical and actual performance may vary due to environmental factors and network conditions.
6.3. Cannot Access Web Management Page
- Ensure your device is connected to the router's network (wired or wireless).
- Verify that you are using the correct default access address: http://tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1.
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different web browser.
- Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer.
6.4. Factory Reset
If other troubleshooting steps fail, you can perform a factory reset. This will revert all settings to their default values. To reset, with the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the rear panel for approximately 10 seconds until the system LED blinks rapidly. Release the button and wait for the router to restart.
