5. Setup and Installation
5.1 Mounting the Compressor
Select a secure, dry location for mounting the compressor, away from direct heat and moisture. Use the provided mounting plates with vibration isolators and hardware to secure the compressor to a stable surface in your vehicle.

5.2 Electrical Wiring
Connect the compressor to a 12-volt power source. Ensure the in-line fuse holder with the appropriate fuse (23 Amps) is installed on the positive (+) wire to protect the circuit. Connect the negative (-) wire to a good chassis ground.

5.3 Air Line Connection
Connect the 1/4" NPT stainless steel braided leader hose to the compressor's outlet. The leader hose includes an in-line check valve, which prevents air from flowing back into the compressor from the air tank. Connect the other end of the leader hose to your air tank or air system.
5.4 Intake Filter Assembly
Install the detachable intake filter assembly. For optimal performance and longevity, consider remote-mounting the intake filter to a location less exposed to dust and moisture than where the compressor is installed. This improves air quality and extends the compressor's lifespan.

6. Operating Instructions
The VXC8301 compressor is designed for high-pressure onboard air systems, suitable for applications such as train horns, air suspension, tire inflation, and air tools. It is designed to work with air tanks up to 5 gallons.
6.1 Powering On/Off
Once properly installed and wired, the compressor will activate when power is supplied to its circuit, typically controlled by a pressure switch connected to your air tank. It will automatically turn off once the desired pressure (up to 200 PSI) is reached in the air tank.
6.2 Thermal Overload Protection
The compressor is equipped with a thermal overload protector. If the unit overheats due to prolonged use or high ambient temperatures, this protector will automatically shut off the compressor to prevent damage. Allow the compressor to cool down for approximately 30 minutes before it can be restarted.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Intake Filter Cleaning
Periodically inspect and clean the foam filter element in the intake filter assembly. A dirty filter can reduce compressor efficiency and lifespan. To clean, remove the foam element, wash it with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before reinstallation.
7.2 Lubrication
The pump's cylinder is permanently lubricated and requires no future lubrication. Do not attempt to lubricate internal components.
7.3 General Inspection
Regularly check all air line connections and electrical wiring for wear, damage, or leaks. Ensure mounting hardware remains tight.
8. Troubleshooting
- Compressor does not turn on: Check electrical connections, fuse, and ensure the vehicle's 12V power supply is active. Verify the pressure switch (if used) is functioning correctly.
- Compressor runs but does not build pressure: Check for air leaks in the system (hoses, fittings, tank). Ensure the in-line check valve is installed correctly and functioning.
- Compressor overheats and shuts off: This is normal operation for the thermal overload protector. Allow the unit to cool down for 30 minutes. Ensure adequate ventilation around the compressor.
- Compressor is excessively noisy: Check mounting hardware for tightness. Ensure vibration isolators are properly installed.
