Setup Instructions

1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
2. Prepare Filter Media:
   • Open the filter unit by releasing the clamps and removing the motor head.
   • Remove the four media baskets. Rinse any included filter media (sponges, ceramic rings, bio-balls) thoroughly under clean water to remove manufacturing dust.
   • Arrange your desired filter media in the baskets. Typically, coarser mechanical media goes in the bottom basket, followed by finer mechanical, then biological, and finally chemical media in the top basket.
   • Ensure the orange sticker at the bottom of the canister aligns with the holes of the baskets for proper UV light positioning.

3. Install UV Lamp: Carefully insert the 9W UV lamp into its designated slot within the quartz sleeve. Ensure it is securely seated.
4. Reassemble Filter Head: Place the media baskets back into the canister, ensuring they are correctly stacked and aligned. Securely attach the motor head, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated and lubricated to prevent leaks. Fasten all clamps.
5. Connect Hoses:
   • Attach the green hoses to the inlet and outlet connections on the filter head. For easier attachment, dip the hose ends in hot water for a few seconds to soften them.
   • Connect the intake tube assembly (with strainer) to the inlet hose and the spray bar/output nozzle to the outlet hose.

6. Position in Aquarium: Place the intake tube and spray bar inside your aquarium, securing them with the provided suction cups. Position the filter unit below the aquarium water level (e.g., inside a cabinet) to facilitate priming.
7. Prime the Filter:
   • Ensure all hose connections are tight.
   • Open the inlet and outlet valves on the filter head.
   • Press the priming button on top of the filter head repeatedly until water begins to flow into the canister and out through the outlet hose into the aquarium. This indicates the filter is primed.
   • Alternatively, fill the canister with water before reattaching the motor head, then fill the tubes with water before connecting.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On: Once the filter is fully primed and water is flowing, plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The filter pump will start operating.
2. UV Sterilizer Operation: The UV sterilizer has a separate power switch or plug. Turn it on when clear water is desired or to combat algae and bacteria. A small indicator light on the top of the canister typically confirms UV operation. It is generally recommended not to run the UV light continuously to prolong its lifespan and prevent potential plastic degradation from heat.
3. Flow Adjustment: Some models may have flow control valves on the inlet/outlet connections. Adjust as needed for your aquarium's requirements.
4. Regular Checks: Periodically check for proper water flow, unusual noises, or leaks.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your filter.

1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the filter and UV sterilizer from the power outlet before performing any maintenance.
2. Shut-off Valves: Close the inlet and outlet valves on the filter head to prevent water backflow and spills.
3. Remove Filter Unit: Use the drip-free shut-off tap to disconnect the filter unit from the hoses and transport it to a suitable cleaning area.
4. Clean Filter Media:
   • Open the filter unit and remove the media baskets.
   • Rinse mechanical filter media (sponges, floss) thoroughly with old aquarium water (from a water change) to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace heavily clogged or degraded mechanical media.
   • Rinse biological media (ceramic rings, bio-balls) gently with old aquarium water. Avoid harsh cleaning that could remove beneficial bacteria.
   • Replace chemical media (activated carbon) as per manufacturer recommendations, typically every 2-4 weeks, as it becomes saturated.
5. Clean Impeller and Motor Head: Remove the impeller cover and clean the impeller and its housing. Remove any debris or mineral buildup.
6. Clean UV Quartz Sleeve and Lamp: Carefully remove the UV lamp and quartz sleeve. Clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth to remove any algae or mineral deposits. Replace the UV lamp annually or as its effectiveness diminishes.
7. Inspect O-rings: Check the main O-ring on the motor head and any other seals for cracks or wear. Lubricate O-rings with silicone grease to maintain a good seal and prevent leaks. Replace if damaged.
8. Reassemble and Restart: Reassemble the filter in reverse order. Ensure all connections are secure and the O-ring is properly seated. Prime the filter as described in the Setup section before plugging it back in.
