2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or death.

  • Installation and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel only.
  • Always disconnect and lock out/tag out all power sources before installing, wiring, or servicing the E-Stop button.
  • Ensure the E-Stop button is integrated into a safety circuit that complies with all relevant local and international safety standards (e.g., UL, CE).
  • Regularly test the E-Stop button for proper functionality.
  • Do not bypass or modify the E-Stop button or its associated safety circuitry.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the E-Stop Push Button:

  1. Panel Cutout: Create a 22mm diameter hole in the control panel for mounting. Ensure sufficient clearance behind the panel for the contact blocks and wiring.
  2. Mounting: Insert the E-Stop button assembly through the panel cutout from the front. Secure it in place using the provided locking nut on the rear of the panel. Tighten the nut firmly to prevent rotation.
  3. Wiring: Connect the control circuit wires to the screw clamp terminals of the 2NC contact blocks. Ensure correct polarity and secure connections. The 2NC contacts will open when the button is pressed. Refer to your system's wiring diagram for specific connections.
  4. Verification: After wiring, visually inspect all connections for tightness and correct routing.
  5. Functional Test: Before restoring power to the system, perform a continuity test on the 2NC contacts to confirm they are closed in the released state and open when the button is pressed.

4. Operating Instructions

  • Activation: In an emergency, firmly push the red mushroom head of the E-Stop button. The button will latch in the depressed position, and the 2NC contacts will open, immediately stopping the connected machinery or process.
  • Resetting: To reset the E-Stop button, turn the red mushroom head clockwise (as indicated by the arrows on the button) until it springs back to its original, unlatched position. This action closes the 2NC contacts, allowing the system to be restarted once the emergency condition is resolved and it is safe to do so.
  • Visual Indication: The button's physical state (depressed or released) provides a clear visual indication of its activation status.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the reliable operation of the E-Stop button:

  • Periodic Inspection: Visually inspect the E-Stop button and its mounting for any signs of damage, wear, or loose connections. Ensure the button head is free from obstructions.
  • Functional Testing: Perform routine functional tests by activating and resetting the E-Stop button to confirm it operates smoothly and latches/unlatches correctly. Verify that the connected machinery responds as expected.
  • Cleaning: Clean the button head and surrounding area with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the plastic materials.
  • Contact Integrity: Periodically check the screw clamp terminals for tightness to ensure good electrical contact.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
E-Stop does not activate (machine does not stop). Loose wiring, damaged contact block, incorrect wiring, button mechanism jammed. Check all wiring connections. Inspect contact block for damage. Verify wiring against schematic. Ensure button head moves freely.
E-Stop does not reset (button remains latched). Button mechanism jammed, internal damage. Ensure the button is turned fully clockwise. Inspect for physical obstructions. If persistent, replace the unit.
Intermittent operation. Loose connections, worn contacts, environmental factors (dust, moisture). Tighten all wiring. Inspect contacts for wear. Clean the unit and ensure proper environmental protection.

If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact Omron technical support or a qualified electrician.
