Image 1: The PRO Charging Systems Tri Pro PS3 3-Bank 45 Amp Battery Charger. The unit features a gray and black casing with three sets of LED indicators on the front panel. An AC power cord extends from one side, and three separate DC output cables, each terminating in red and black ring terminals, extend from the other side. The charger is designed for mounting with integrated tabs.

Key Components:

  • AC Input Cord: Connects the charger to a standard 120V AC power outlet.
  • DC Output Cables: Three independent sets of red (positive) and black (negative) cables with ring terminals for connecting to battery posts.
  • LED Indicators: Each bank has a series of LEDs (e.g., 10%, 20%, 50%, 70%, 90%, 100%) to display the battery's state of charge.
  • Mounting Tabs: Integrated tabs on the chassis for secure installation.

5. Setup

5.1 Mounting the Charger

  1. Select a dry, well-ventilated location for mounting the charger, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and flammable materials.
  2. Ensure there is sufficient space around the charger for air circulation.
  3. Use appropriate fasteners (not included) to secure the charger through its mounting tabs to a stable surface.

5.2 Connecting to Batteries

IMPORTANT: Ensure the charger is unplugged from AC power before making any battery connections.

  1. Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on each battery.
  2. For each charging bank, connect the RED ring terminal of an output cable to the POSITIVE (+) battery terminal.
  3. Connect the BLACK ring terminal of the same output cable to the NEGATIVE (-) battery terminal.
  4. Repeat this process for each battery you wish to charge, ensuring each battery is connected to a separate charging bank.
  5. Verify all connections are secure and free from corrosion.

5.3 Connecting to AC Power

  1. Once all battery connections are secure, plug the charger's AC power cord into a standard 120V AC grounded outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

The PRO Charging Systems Tri Pro PS3 charger operates automatically once connected to batteries and AC power.

  1. After plugging in the charger, the LED indicators for each connected battery bank will illuminate, indicating the current state of charge and the charging progress.
  2. The charger will automatically enter a multi-stage charging cycle: bulk, absorption, and float.
  3. During the bulk stage, the charger delivers maximum current until the battery reaches approximately 80% of its charge.
  4. During the absorption stage, the voltage is held constant while the current gradually decreases, bringing the battery to full charge.
  5. Once fully charged, the charger enters a float stage, maintaining the battery at an optimal voltage to prevent self-discharge without overcharging. The 100% LED indicator will typically be solid.
  6. You can leave the charger connected for extended periods to maintain battery health.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the charger's exterior with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents. Ensure ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the AC power cord and DC output cables for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Terminal Connections: Ensure battery terminal connections remain clean and tight to prevent resistance and ensure efficient charging.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the charger in a cool, dry place.
