Installation Instructions
Follow these steps to install the Foset VW-005 Fill Valve:
- Turn Off Water Supply: Locate the water shut-off valve for your toilet, usually on the wall behind or near the toilet, and turn it clockwise until the water flow stops. Flush the toilet to empty the tank.
- Disconnect Old Fill Valve: Disconnect the water supply line from the bottom of the old fill valve. Use a wrench if necessary. Inside the tank, unscrew the mounting nut that secures the old fill valve. Remove the old fill valve from the tank.
- Prepare New Fill Valve: Ensure the rubber washer is properly seated on the threaded shank of the new Foset VW-005 fill valve.
- Install New Fill Valve: Insert the threaded shank of the new fill valve through the hole in the bottom of the toilet tank. From underneath the tank, thread the mounting nut onto the shank and hand-tighten it securely. Do not overtighten.
- Connect Water Supply: Reconnect the water supply line to the bottom of the new fill valve. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn to ensure a leak-free connection.
- Attach Refill Tube: Connect one end of the refill tube to the small port on the top of the fill valve. Clip the other end of the refill tube to the overflow pipe of the flush valve, ensuring it is above the water line but directed into the pipe. This refills the toilet bowl after flushing.
- Adjust Float: The float mechanism controls the water level. The float arm should be connected to the fill valve and the float ball. Adjust the float arm or the position of the float ball to set the desired water level in the tank. The water level should be approximately 1 inch below the top of the overflow pipe.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn the water shut-off valve counter-clockwise to restore water supply to the toilet. Check for any leaks at the connections.
- Test Flush: Flush the toilet several times to ensure the fill valve operates correctly, filling the tank to the desired level and refilling the bowl.

Operation
The Foset VW-005 Fill Valve automatically controls the water level in your toilet tank. When the toilet is flushed, the water level drops, causing the float ball to lower. This opens the valve, allowing fresh water to enter the tank and refill the bowl via the refill tube. As the water level rises, the float ball lifts, gradually closing the valve until the desired water level is reached, at which point the water flow stops.
Adjusting Water Level
To adjust the water level in the tank, you may need to adjust the float mechanism. Typically, this involves a screw or clip on the float arm that allows you to raise or lower the float ball's position. A higher float position results in a higher water level, and a lower position results in a lower water level. Ensure the water level is always below the top of the overflow pipe to prevent continuous running.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance can extend the life of your fill valve and prevent common toilet issues:
- Cleaning: Periodically inspect the fill valve for mineral deposits or debris, especially if you have hard water. Turn off the water supply, remove the valve cap (if applicable and designed for removal), and gently clean any accumulated sediment.
- Check for Leaks: Regularly check all connections for leaks. Tighten any loose connections, but avoid overtightening.
- Inspect Float: Ensure the float ball moves freely and is not obstructed by other tank components.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Toilet runs continuously | Water level too high; float obstructed; worn seal. | Adjust float to lower water level. Clear any obstructions. Inspect and replace internal seals if necessary. |
| Tank fills slowly or not at all | Water supply partially off; clogged inlet screen; low water pressure. | Ensure water supply valve is fully open. Turn off water, disconnect supply line, clean inlet screen. Check household water pressure. |
| Leaking at connections | Loose connections; damaged washers. | Tighten connections (hand-tighten plus quarter-turn with wrench). Replace damaged washers. |
