Setup and Assembly

1. Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the 20V MAX Lithium Ion battery. Connect the charger to a standard power outlet and insert the battery pack. The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes a few hours. The battery holds its charge for up to 18 months when not in use.

2. Attaching the Guard

Align the guard with the slots on the trimmer head and push firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure it is securely fastened before operation. The guard protects the user from debris and the cutting line.

3. Assembling the Shaft and Handle

Insert the upper shaft into the lower shaft until it locks. The trimmer features an adjustable height and handle for ideal user comfort. Loosen the collar to extend or retract the shaft to your desired length, then tighten to secure. Adjust the auxiliary handle position for comfortable grip and balance.

4. Installing the Automatic Feed Spool (AFS)

The trimmer comes with an Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) which automatically feeds trimmer line as needed, eliminating the need for manual bumping. To install or replace the spool, ensure the battery is removed. Press the tabs on the spool cap and remove it. Place the new spool onto the spindle, ensuring the line is threaded through the eyelet. Replace the spool cap, aligning the tabs and pressing until it clicks.

Operating Instructions

1. Trimming Operation

Insert the charged battery pack into the tool until it clicks. To start the trimmer, press the trigger. Hold the trimmer comfortably, keeping the cutting head parallel to the ground. Move the trimmer slowly and steadily across the area to be trimmed. The 10-inch cutting swath allows for efficient coverage.

2. Edging Operation

The LST201 easily converts from a trimmer to an edger. To switch to edging mode, rotate the trimmer head 180 degrees. This allows you to edge along sidewalks and driveways with precision. Guide the wheel along the hard surface to maintain a consistent cutting depth.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your trimmer.

• Cleaning: After each use, remove the battery and clean the trimmer head and guard with a damp cloth. Remove any accumulated grass or debris from the cutting line area.
• Line Replacement: When the trimmer line runs out, replace it with a genuine BLACK+DECKER AFS spool. Refer to the "Installing the Automatic Feed Spool (AFS)" section for instructions.
• Battery Care: Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store the battery in a discharged state for extended periods. Charge it periodically if not in use.
