5.1. Locating the Battery

5.2. Removing the Old Battery

  1. Before starting, ensure the engine and all electronic devices in your vehicle are turned off.
  2. Locate the battery. First, remove the negative (-) cable. Loosen the cable end with the appropriate wrench or battery pliers and pull the cable end off the terminal. The negative cable is typically black. Always check the battery label for the minus (-) sign.
  3. Secure the negative cable away from the battery to avoid unintended contact during the removal process.
  4. Next, remove the positive (+) cable from the old battery using the same process. The positive cable is typically red. Look for the plus (+) symbol on the battery case.
  5. Secure the positive cable somewhere away from the negative cable.
  6. Loosen the nuts or bolts on the bracket that holds the battery in place.
  7. Carefully lift the old battery out of the vehicle. Remember, batteries commonly weigh about 40 lbs (18 kg).

5.3. Installing the New Battery

  1. Place your new Bosch S6551B battery into the same designated position as the old battery. You may need to gently jiggle it to fit into the holding plate. Push it to the side of the plate where the bracket will lock the battery in place.
  2. Before reconnecting the cables, inspect the cable ends and perform a general cleaning using a battery post and cable end cleaning brush.
  3. Place the positive (+) cable end onto the positive terminal and tighten the hardware. Ensure the hardware is not too tight but still holds onto the terminal securely.
  4. Place the negative (-) cable end onto the negative terminal and tighten the hardware. Ensure the hardware is not too tight but still holds onto the terminal securely.
  5. You can now close the hood and start your engine.
