Honeywell TH5110D1022 FocusPRO 5000 Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat User Manual

Model: TH5110D1022

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Honeywell TH5110D1022 FocusPRO 5000 Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat. This device is designed to provide electronic control of 24 VAC conventional and heat pump systems, or 750 mV heating systems. It offers reliable temperature control with a clear digital display.

2. Safety Information

  • Always turn off power to the heating/cooling system at the main circuit breaker or fuse box before installation or servicing.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified technician if you are unsure about electrical wiring.
  • Do not short out terminals on the gas valve or at the system control to test the thermostat. This can damage the thermostat and void the warranty.
  • Ensure all wiring connections are secure to prevent electrical hazards.

3. Package Contents

Verify that your package contains the following items:

  • Honeywell TH5110D1022 FocusPRO 5000 Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat
  • Wallplate (often pre-attached to the thermostat)
  • Mounting hardware (screws and wall anchors)
  • User Guide / Installation Instructions

4. Installation (Setup)

4.1 Removing the Old Thermostat

  1. Turn off power: Before beginning, turn off the power to your heating and cooling system at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove old thermostat cover: Most thermostat covers snap off.
  3. Photograph wiring: Take a picture of the wiring connections of your old thermostat. This will be a helpful reference.
  4. Label wires: Use the provided labels (if any) or masking tape to label each wire with its terminal designation (e.g., R, G, Y, W).
  5. Disconnect wires: Carefully disconnect the wires from the old thermostat terminals.
  6. Remove old wallplate: Unscrew and remove the old thermostat's wallplate.

4.2 Mounting the New Thermostat

  1. Separate wallplate: If the thermostat and wallplate are assembled, gently pull them apart.
  2. Position wallplate: Hold the new wallplate against the wall where you want to mount the thermostat. Level it for appearance.
  3. Mark screw positions: Mark the screw holes on the wall.
  4. Drill holes: Drill pilot holes (typically 3/16-inch for drywall, 7/32-inch for plaster). Insert wall anchors if needed.
  5. Secure wallplate: Route the wires through the opening in the wallplate and screw the wallplate securely to the wall.

4.3 Wiring the Thermostat

Refer to the wiring diagram provided with your specific heating/cooling system and the photograph you took of your old thermostat's wiring. Connect the labeled wires to the corresponding terminals on the new thermostat's wallplate.

Common Wiring Terminals:

  • R: 24 VAC heating power
  • Rc: 24 VAC cooling power (often jumpered to R for single transformer systems)
  • G: Fan relay
  • Y: Compressor contactor (cooling)
  • W: Heat relay (heating)
  • C: Common wire (optional, provides continuous 24 VAC power)
  • O/B: Reversing valve for heat pumps

Ensure all wires are securely fastened in their terminals.

4.4 Installing Batteries (Optional/Primary Power)

This thermostat can be powered by hardwiring or batteries. If using batteries as the primary power source or as a backup, install two fresh AA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment on the back of the thermostat unit before snapping it onto the wallplate.

4.5 Attaching Thermostat to Wallplate

Align the thermostat unit with the wallplate and gently push until it snaps securely into place.

4.6 Restoring Power

Once the thermostat is securely mounted and wired, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box.

5. Operation

Honeywell TH5110D1022 FocusPRO 5000 Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat display showing 72 degrees inside and 72 degrees cool setting, with Fan Auto and System Cool modes selected.

Figure 1: Honeywell TH5110D1022 Thermostat Display and Controls. The screen shows the current room temperature (72°F) and the set temperature (72°F). Buttons for adjusting temperature, fan mode, and system mode are visible.

5.1 Display Overview

  • Inside: Displays the current room temperature.
  • Cool/Heat Setting: Displays the desired temperature setting.
  • Fan: Indicates the fan operation mode (Auto or On).
  • System: Indicates the current system mode (Heat, Cool, Off).

5.2 Adjusting Temperature

Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) arrow buttons on the right side of the thermostat to increase or decrease the desired temperature setting.

5.3 Changing System Mode

Press the System button (bottom right) to cycle through the available modes:

  • Cool: The system will cool your home to the set temperature.
  • Off: The heating and cooling system is turned off.
  • Heat: The system will heat your home to the set temperature.
  • Em Heat (Heat Pump systems only): Activates emergency heat.

5.4 Changing Fan Mode

Press the Fan button (bottom left) to cycle through the available modes:

  • Auto: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating. This is the most common and energy-efficient setting.
  • On: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

When the battery icon appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately. Low batteries can cause the thermostat to malfunction. To replace batteries:

  1. Gently pull the thermostat unit off the wallplate.
  2. Remove the old AA alkaline batteries.
  3. Insert two new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Snap the thermostat unit back onto the wallplate.

6.2 Cleaning the Thermostat

Clean the thermostat's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the thermostat.
