5.1. Battery Installation

The HP-856A typically uses one 9V battery.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the main unit.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Connect the 9V battery to the battery clip, observing correct polarity.
  4. Place the battery into the compartment and close the cover securely.

5.2. Connecting the Wind Sensor

The wind sensor vane connects to the main unit via a coiled cable.

  1. Plug the USB-A connector from the coiled cable into the corresponding USB port on the main unit.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off

Press the POWER button to turn the device on or off.

6.2. Display Overview

The large LCD displays various parameters:

6.3. Changing Measurement Units

Press the UNIT button to cycle through wind speed units (m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, mph).

Press the °C/°F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit for temperature.

6.4. MAX/MIN/AVG Measurement

Press the MAX/MIN button to view maximum, minimum, and average readings for wind speed and airflow. Press again to cycle through modes.

6.5. Data Hold

Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.

6.6. Backlight

Press the LIGHT button to turn the display backlight on or off.

6.7. Airflow Area Setting

To measure airflow (CFM/CMM), you must first set the area of the duct or vent.

  1. Press the AREA button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the area value.
  3. Press ENTER to confirm.
