2. Setup and Installation

The AFC Brand Water Filter is designed for easy installation. For best results, refer to the installation instructions provided with your specific water filtration system housing. Below are general guidelines:

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve to your filtration system and turn it off.
  2. Depressurize System: Open a nearby faucet to release any remaining water pressure in the system.
  3. Remove Old Filter: Twist or unlatch the old filter cartridge from its housing. Be prepared for some water spillage.
  4. Prepare New Filter: Remove the new AFC filter from its packaging. Ensure all protective caps are removed.
  5. Install New Filter: Insert the new filter into the housing, aligning it correctly. Twist or latch it securely into place according to your system's design.
  6. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn the main water supply back on. Check for leaks around the filter housing.
  7. Flush System: Run water through the system for several minutes (e.g., 5-10 minutes) to flush out any air or carbon fines. Initial water may appear cloudy; this is normal and will clear.

Note: Always ensure the filter is installed in the correct flow direction if indicated on the filter or housing.

3. Operating Instructions

Once installed, your AFC Brand Water Filter operates continuously to provide filtered water. The filter is designed for cold water use only, with a maximum temperature of 100°F (38°C) and a maximum pressure of 125 PSI.

The filter will reduce chlorine, bad taste, odor, and various contaminants, improving the overall quality of your drinking water. You may notice an immediate improvement in water clarity and taste.

4. Maintenance

Regular replacement of your water filter is crucial for maintaining optimal water quality and system performance. The AFC Brand Water Filter has a capacity of 12 months or 9000 Gallons, whichever comes first.

  • Filter Replacement: Replace the filter cartridge every 12 months or after filtering 9000 gallons of water. This ensures continued reduction of contaminants and prevents reduced flow rates due to filter clogging.
  • Monitoring Flow Rate: A noticeable decrease in water flow from your filtered water tap is an indication that the filter may be nearing the end of its life and requires replacement.
  • Taste and Odor Changes: If you detect a return of chlorine taste or odor, it is also a sign that the filter needs to be replaced.

Refer to Section 2, "Setup and Installation," for steps on how to replace the filter.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AFC Brand Water Filter, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Reduced Water Flow:
    • Check if the filter is due for replacement (see Maintenance section).
    • Ensure the filter is correctly seated in its housing.
    • Verify that the main water supply valve is fully open.
  • Cloudy Water After Installation:
    • This is usually air trapped in the system or carbon fines from the new filter. Run water for several minutes until it clears.
  • Leaks Around Filter Housing:
    • Ensure the filter is properly installed and tightened.
    • Check the O-rings or gaskets in the filter housing for proper seating or damage.
  • Unpleasant Taste or Odor Returns:
    • The filter has likely reached its capacity and needs to be replaced.

If problems persist, please contact customer support.
