SHARPE FX3000

SHARPE FINEX FX3000 1.4MM HVLP Spray Gun Instruction Manual

Model: FX3000

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation, setup, and maintenance of your SHARPE FINEX FX3000 HVLP Spray Gun. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure proper function and longevity.

The FINEX FX3000 is a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray gun designed for various coating applications, including base coats, clear coats, single stages, sealers, and primers. It features a large pattern size and supports multiple nozzle sizes for versatility.

Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions when operating the spray gun:

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, eye protection, and gloves.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area to prevent inhalation of fumes.
  • Never point the spray gun at yourself or others.
  • Disconnect the air supply before cleaning, adjusting, or performing maintenance on the gun.
  • Use only compatible and recommended coatings and cleaning solvents.
  • Keep the spray gun away from open flames, sparks, and other ignition sources.
  • Read and understand the safety data sheets (SDS) for all coatings and solvents used.

Setup

  1. Attach the Cup: Securely screw the 600 cc aluminum cup onto the fluid inlet of the spray gun. Ensure a tight seal to prevent leaks.
  2. Connect Air Supply: Attach a 1/4 inch NPSM air hose to the air inlet at the bottom of the gun handle. Ensure the air supply is regulated to the recommended pressure.
  3. Select Nozzle: Choose the appropriate nozzle size for your coating material. The 1.4 mm nozzle is suitable for base coats, clear coats, single stages, sealers, and low solid clear. Refer to the "Nozzle Selection Guide" in the Operating section for other applications.
  4. Fill Cup: Fill the aluminum cup with your prepared coating material. Do not overfill.
  5. Adjust Air and Fluid: Before spraying, make initial adjustments to the air and fluid controls. The air cap controls the spray pattern, while the fluid needle controls the material flow.

Operating Instructions

Recommended Air Pressure

Maintain an air inlet pressure of 29 PSI (2.0 bar, 200 kPa) for optimal performance. Air consumption is approximately 9.5 SCFM.

Nozzle Selection Guide

The FINEX FX3000 supports various nozzle sizes for different coating viscosities and applications:

  • 1.0 mm: Suitable for light industrial applications, hobby projects, spot repair, base coats, clear coats, and other very light viscosity coatings.
  • 1.3 mm: Ideal for base coats, high solid coatings, single stages, clear coats, and other light viscosity coatings.
  • 1.4 mm: Recommended for base coats, clear coats, single stages, sealers, low solid clear, and other light to medium viscosity coatings. (This is the standard nozzle for the FX3000 model.)
  • 1.5 mm: For base coats, sealers, enamels, medium to high viscosity coatings, clear coat general purpose primers, and other medium viscosity coatings.
  • 1.8 mm: Best for primers, high build primers, 2K primers, polyesters, and other high viscosity coatings.

Spraying Technique

  1. Hold the gun perpendicular to the surface, maintaining a consistent distance (typically 6-8 inches).
  2. Move the gun at a steady speed, overlapping each pass by approximately 50%.
  3. Trigger the gun fully at the beginning of each pass and release at the end to avoid uneven application.
  4. Adjust the fan pattern and fluid flow as needed for desired coverage and finish. The maximum pattern size is 12.5 inches.

Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of your spray gun.

  1. Immediate Cleaning: After each use, empty any remaining material from the cup. Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solvent into the cup and spray it through the gun until clear solvent emerges.
  2. Disassembly and Detailed Cleaning:
    • Disconnect the air supply.
    • Remove the air cap, fluid nozzle, and fluid needle.
    • Use the provided cleaning brush and appropriate solvent to thoroughly clean all components. Pay special attention to the air cap holes and fluid passages.
    • Do not use metal objects to clean the nozzle or air cap holes, as this can damage them.
  3. Lubrication: Apply a small amount of spray gun lubricant to the fluid needle packing and air valve packing periodically.
  4. Storage: Store the clean and dry spray gun in a safe place, protected from dust and damage.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pulsating or uneven sprayLow material in cup, loose fluid nozzle, clogged air cap, insufficient air pressure.Refill cup, tighten nozzle, clean air cap, check air pressure (29 PSI).
Excessive oversprayToo much air pressure, gun too far from surface, material too thin.Reduce air pressure, move gun closer, thicken material or use larger nozzle.
Heavy top/bottom patternClogged air horn holes on air cap.Clean air cap thoroughly.
Heavy left/right patternClogged side port holes on air cap.Clean air cap thoroughly.
No material flowClogged fluid nozzle, fluid needle stuck, no material in cup.Clean nozzle, check fluid needle movement, refill cup.
