Setup

1. Battery Installation

Both the indoor display unit and the outdoor sensor require batteries for operation. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for best performance and longevity.

  1. Indoor Display Unit: Open the battery compartment on the back of the indoor unit. Insert the required number of AA batteries (refer to the unit's markings) according to the polarity indicators (+ and -). Close the battery compartment.
  2. Outdoor Sensor: Open the battery compartment on the back of the outdoor sensor. Insert the required number of AA batteries (refer to the unit's markings) according to the polarity indicators. Close the battery compartment.

2. Sensor Pairing

The indoor display unit will automatically attempt to connect with the outdoor sensor once both units have batteries installed. This process may take a few minutes.

  • Place the outdoor sensor within 10 feet (3 meters) of the indoor display unit during the initial setup to facilitate pairing.
  • Once connected, the outdoor temperature will appear on the indoor display. If the connection is not established, press the "SENSOR SEARCH" button on the indoor unit to initiate a manual search.

3. Placement Recommendations

  • Indoor Display Unit: Place the indoor unit in a central location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or vents that could affect its temperature readings.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Mount the outdoor sensor in a shaded area, protected from direct sunlight and precipitation, to ensure accurate temperature readings. Avoid placing it near metal objects or large electrical appliances that could interfere with the wireless signal. The maximum wireless range is over 300 feet (91 meters) in open air, but obstacles like walls and other wireless devices can reduce this range.

Operating Instructions

Display Overview

The indoor display unit provides the following information:

  • Outdoor Temperature: Current temperature measured by the remote sensor.
  • Indoor Temperature: Current temperature measured by the indoor unit.
  • Temperature Trend Indicators: Arrows indicating rising, falling, or stable temperature trends for both indoor and outdoor readings.
  • Time and Date: Current time and calendar date (Month/Day).
  • Temperature Alerts: Indicators for high and low temperature alerts (HI/LO).
  • Low Battery Indicators: Icons to show when batteries in either unit are low.

Button Functions

The indoor display unit features several buttons for configuration and control:

  • SENSOR SEARCH: Initiates a manual search for the outdoor sensor.
  • SETTINGS: Used to enter setup mode for time, date, and other preferences.
  • OUTDOOR TEMP ALERTS: Configures high and low temperature alert thresholds for the outdoor reading.
  • TIME / ALARM: Adjusts time settings and sets alarms.
  • °C/°F Button: Toggles temperature display between Celsius and Fahrenheit. (This button is typically located on the back or side of the unit).

Setting Time and Date

  1. Press and hold the SETTINGS button to enter time/date setting mode.
  2. Use the adjustment buttons (often labeled + or -) to change the flashing value.
  3. Press SETTINGS again to confirm the selection and move to the next setting (e.g., hour, minute, year, month, day).
  4. Exit setting mode by pressing SETTINGS repeatedly until the normal display resumes, or wait for the unit to automatically exit after a period of inactivity.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display for either the indoor unit or the outdoor sensor, replace the batteries promptly. The outdoor sensor batteries are estimated to last over 2 years with alkaline batteries.

  1. Open the battery compartment of the unit requiring new batteries.
  2. Remove the old batteries and dispose of them responsibly according to local regulations.
  3. Insert new batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the battery compartment. The unit may need to re-establish connection after battery replacement.

Cleaning

Wipe the display unit and sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the plastic casing or electronic components.

Sensor Protection

While the outdoor sensor is designed for outdoor use, protecting it from extreme weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain, direct snow accumulation, prolonged direct sunlight) can extend its lifespan and improve accuracy.

Troubleshooting

  • No Outdoor Temperature Reading:
    • Ensure both the indoor unit and outdoor sensor have fresh batteries installed correctly.
    • Press the "SENSOR SEARCH" button on the indoor unit.
    • Move the outdoor sensor closer to the indoor unit.
    • Check for sources of interference such as other wireless devices, large metal objects, or thick walls between the units.
  • Inaccurate Temperature Readings:
    • Ensure the outdoor sensor is placed in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
    • Verify the indoor unit is not near heat vents, windows, or direct sunlight.
    • Replace batteries in both units.
  • Intermittent Signal Loss:
    • This can occur in environments with many other wireless devices or significant structural interference. Try repositioning both units.
    • Ensure the distance between the units is within the specified wireless range (300 feet / 91 meters) and minimize obstructions.
    • Consider potential interference from neighboring wireless devices, as the unit may pick up signals from other similar devices in dense urban or residential areas.
