6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Starting the Fireplace

  1. Ensure the gas supply is open.
  2. Locate the concealed controls, typically found at the bottom of the unit.
  3. Press and hold the one-button controlled electric igniter while turning the control knob to the 'Pilot' position.
  4. Once the pilot light is lit, continue to hold the igniter for approximately 30-60 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat up.
  5. Release the igniter. If the pilot light remains lit, turn the control knob to the desired heat setting.

6.2 Adjusting Heat Output

The fireplace features an adjustable thermostat. Use the control knob to select your desired heat level. The thermostat will automatically regulate the flame to maintain the set temperature.

6.3 Shutting Down the Fireplace

To turn off the main burner, turn the control knob to the 'Pilot' position. To completely shut off the gas to the unit, turn the control knob to the 'Off' position and close the main gas supply valve.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your fireplace. Always ensure the unit is cool and the gas supply is off before performing any maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Log Set Inspection: Inspect the ceramic log set for any cracks or damage. Replace damaged logs immediately to ensure proper flame pattern and efficiency.
  • Pilot Light/Burner Inspection: Annually inspect the pilot light and main burner for debris or blockages. Clean as necessary.
  • Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS): Do not tamper with the ODS. If the pilot light frequently goes out, it may indicate an issue with the ODS or insufficient oxygen in the room. Consult the troubleshooting section or a qualified technician.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Comfort Glow Monterey GSD2846, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Fireplace does not ignite:
    • Ensure the gas supply valve is fully open.
    • Check if the igniter battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge.
    • Verify that the pilot light tube is not obstructed.
  • Pilot light goes out frequently:
    • This can occur if the propane tank is less than half full (for LP models). Ensure adequate fuel supply.
    • The Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) may be activating due to insufficient oxygen. Ensure proper ventilation in the room.
    • Check for drafts or air currents that might be extinguishing the pilot.
  • Inconsistent heat output:
    • Ensure the thermostat setting is appropriate for the room size and desired temperature.
    • Verify that the air intake and exhaust vents (if applicable) are not blocked.
  • Odor present during operation:
    • A slight odor may be present during the initial few hours of operation as manufacturing oils burn off. This is normal.
    • If a strong or persistent gas odor is detected, immediately shut off the gas supply and ventilate the area. Do not operate the appliance and contact a qualified technician.

For issues not covered here, or if troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem, contact a qualified service technician.
