Setup Guide

1. Charging the Battery

Before first use, ensure the included Battery Pack BP-718 is fully charged. Connect the camcorder to the power adapter and plug it into a wall outlet. The charging indicator will show the charging status. A full charge is recommended for optimal performance.

2. Inserting an SD Memory Card

Open the SD card slot cover. Insert a compatible SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card into the slot with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely. Ensure the card is formatted by the camcorder before recording, if prompted.

3. Initial Power On

Open the LCD panel to power on the camcorder. Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup, such as setting the date and time.

Operating the Camcorder

Basic Recording

To begin recording, open the LCD panel and press the START/STOP button. Press it again to stop recording. The camcorder automatically adjusts settings in Smart AUTO mode. For manual control, use the touch panel LCD to access menu options.

Zoom Operation

Use the zoom lever located on top of the camcorder to zoom in or out. The 57x Advanced Zoom allows for significant magnification. For precise control, the camcorder offers 15 levels of continually variable zoom speed settings.

Image Stabilization (Intelligent IS)

The Intelligent IS system automatically selects the best stabilization method for your shooting situation. This includes:

Special Shooting Modes

  • Baby Mode: Activates optimal settings for recording children. Videos are automatically saved to a dedicated Baby Album. The Pre-Record (Pre REC) function is always active in this mode, capturing three seconds of video before you press record. You can add stamps for height, weight, and age.
  • Slow & Fast Motion: Record slow motion at 1/2x speed or fast motion up to 1200x for creative effects.
  • Cinema-Look Filter Effects: Apply one of seven built-in filters (Cinema Standard, Cool, Dramatic B&W, Old Movies, Nostalgic, Sepia, Vivid) to add cinematic styling. Brightness and other parameters can be adjusted.
  • Face Detection: Automatically tracks up to 35 faces, ensuring sharp focus and accurate exposure. A specific face can be selected for continuous tracking.
  • Video Snapshot: Record or select short video clips (2, 4, or 8 seconds) and combine them with background music to create highlight reels.
  • 24p Cinema and 30p Progressive Modes: Offer options for a film-like feel (24p) or smooth progressive video (30p), suitable for online content.

Audio Scene Select

Choose from five audio modes to optimize sound quality based on your environment: Standard, Music, Speech, Forest and Birds, and Noise Suppression. Each mode has pre-determined settings for clear audio capture.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camcorder

  • Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the camcorder body. For stubborn dirt, dampen the cloth slightly with water and then wipe dry. Avoid using organic solvents.
  • Lens: Use a lens brush to remove dust. For smudges, use a lens cleaning cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Do not touch the lens with your fingers.
  • LCD Screen: Gently wipe the screen with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid pressing hard on the screen.

Storage

Troubleshooting
