1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the installation and maintenance of the Sony PlayStation 3 Super Slim Blu-ray Laser Lens (Models KES-850A and KEM-850). This component is designed as a direct replacement for the optical drive in compatible PlayStation 3 Super Slim consoles (CECH-4xxx, CECH-4000, CECH-4001A, CECH-4001B series) to restore disc reading functionality.

Both KEM-850PHA 4301B and KEM-850PHA 4301A models are compatible and interchangeable with this unit.

4. Setup and Installation

Replacing the Blu-ray laser lens requires disassembling the PlayStation 3 Super Slim console. It is highly recommended to consult detailed video tutorials or professional guides specific to your PS3 model (CECH-4xxx series) before proceeding.

Required Tools:

• Small Phillips head screwdriver
• Torx T8 Security screwdriver (for specific console screws)
• Plastic prying tools (spudgers)
• Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)

Installation Steps (General Guide):

1. Power Off and Disconnect: Ensure the PS3 console is completely powered off and unplugged from all power sources and peripherals.
2. Disassemble Console: Carefully open the PS3 Super Slim console casing. This typically involves removing several screws (some may be hidden under rubber feet or stickers) and gently prying open plastic clips.

Note: The PlayStation 3 Super Slim models (CECH-4xxx) typically do not require "marrying" the new drive to the console's motherboard via software, unlike some older PS3 models. This replacement unit should function directly upon proper installation.

5. Operating Instructions (After Lens Replacement)

Once the new laser lens assembly is successfully installed, the PlayStation 3 Super Slim console should be able to read optical discs again.

• Disc Insertion: Gently insert a compatible Blu-ray game disc or movie disc into the console's disc slot. The console should automatically pull the disc in.
• Disc Recognition: The console's XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface should display the disc icon and title.
• Playback/Launch: Select the disc icon to launch the game or begin movie playback.
• Disc Ejection: Press the Eject button on the console to remove the disc.
