5. Setup and Installation

The Bovee tune2air WMA3000A is designed for plug-and-play installation. Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Locate the AMI/MDI/MMI Port: This port is typically found in your car's glove box, center console, or armrest.
  2. Connect the Device: Plug the tune2air adapter firmly into your car's existing iPod/Media socket. Ensure the connection is secure.
  3. Prepare Your Vehicle:
    • With the vehicle running or key in accessory position, enter your car's MMI console.
    • Important: Disable any existing Bluetooth connectivity within your car's MMI system. Remove all previously paired devices. Some users find it helpful to perform a complete reset/factory default of the MMI's Bluetooth settings.
    • Turn off the car's main head unit by pressing and holding the power button until only the opening screen appears.
    • Remove the car key.
  4. Power On and Observe Indicator: Insert the car key and turn the ignition to the 'on' position (or start the car). The blue light indicator on the tune2air unit should begin flashing, indicating it is in pairing mode.
  5. Pair with Your Smartphone:
    • On your smartphone, go to Bluetooth settings and scan for available devices.
    • Select "Tune2Air" from the list of available devices.
    • When prompted, enter the passcode: 0000.
    • Crucial Step for iOS Devices: To ensure proper recognition and music playback, you must have at least one song downloaded to your phone's native music library (e.g., Apple Music). The system relies on this for initial communication.
    • For Android Devices: Ensure your music streaming application has permission to phone and storage. You may also need to grant permission for music streaming application and device broadcast status in your phone's settings.
  6. Select Source in Car MMI:
    • Do NOT enable Bluetooth on the MMI console at this point.
    • Go to "Source" on your car's MMI console and scroll to the bottom of the list. Your smartphone's name should appear. Select this option as your audio source.
    • Begin playing music or any stored audio signal (streaming works too) through your smartphone's speakers initially. The tune2air should then engage the output through your car's system.
  7. Automatic Reconnection: Once successfully paired, the tune2air will automatically reconnect to your device every time you enter the vehicle.

  • On-Screen Display: The device is designed to display your music library, track information, and artist details on your original car screen. Note that the level of detail displayed may vary depending on your car's MMI system and the metadata provided by your music source (e.g., Spotify may show "Spotify" as the title, while local files show full details).
  • Controls: Use your car's MMI knob, buttons, or steering wheel controls to navigate playlists, skip tracks (next/previous), and pause/play music.

  • Unplug from car and restart your phone.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth devices.
  • Plug back into car. When the blue light power and pairing indicator turns on, tap to pair on your phone (Pairing code: 0000).
