Create a separate and secure Wi-Fi network for guests. This allows guests to access the internet without gaining access to your main network resources or connected devices.
- Access the router settings via the Nighthawk app or web interface.
- Navigate to the Guest Network section.
- Enable the guest network and set a unique SSID and password.
5.3 USB Storage and Printer Sharing
The USB 3.0 port on the router allows you to connect a USB storage device or a printer, making it accessible to all devices on your network.
- ReadySHARE USB Access: Connect a USB storage drive to the USB port to share files across your network or create a personal cloud storage for remote access.
- ReadySHARE Printer: Connect a USB printer to the USB port to allow multiple computers on your network to print to it.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Firmware Updates
Regularly updating your router's firmware is crucial for security, performance, and access to new features. NETGEAR typically provides firmware updates through the Nighthawk app or the router's web interface.
- Check for updates periodically via the Nighthawk app or by logging into www.routerlogin.net.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates. Do not power off the router during a firmware update.
6.2 Factory Reset
A factory reset restores the router to its original default settings. This can be useful for troubleshooting persistent issues or when preparing to sell or dispose of the router.
- With the router powered on, use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the recessed Reset button on the rear panel for about 7-10 seconds.
- Release the button when the Power LED starts blinking. The router will restart with factory default settings.
- After a factory reset, you will need to reconfigure your internet and Wi-Fi settings.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your R6700 router.
7.1 No Internet Connection
- Ensure your modem is powered on and has an active internet connection (check modem's indicator lights).
- Verify the Ethernet cable between the modem and the router's Internet port is securely connected.
- Restart both your modem and router by unplugging them from power for 30 seconds, then plugging them back in (modem first, then router).
- Check the Internet LED on the router. If it's not solid white, there might be an issue with your ISP connection or router configuration.
7.2 Slow Wi-Fi Speed or Frequent Disconnections
- Router Placement: Ensure the router is centrally located, away from large metal objects, concrete walls, and other electronic devices that can cause interference.
- Interference: Other Wi-Fi networks, cordless phones, and microwaves can interfere. Try changing your Wi-Fi channel in the router settings.
- Band Selection: For devices that support it, connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band for faster speeds and less interference, especially for streaming and gaming.
- Firmware: Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
- Device Limit: While the router supports up to 25 devices, excessive simultaneous high-bandwidth usage can impact performance.
7.3 Cannot Access Router Settings
- Ensure your device is connected to the router's network (either wired or wirelessly).
- Verify you are using the correct web address (www.routerlogin.net or www.routerlogin.com) or the Nighthawk app.
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different web browser.
- If you forgot your login credentials, a factory reset may be necessary (refer to Section 6.2).
