Key features include:

  • Vexilar FL-8SE GENZ Pack with 19 Ice Ducer [GP0819]
  • Battery Powered operation for portability.
  • LED Display for clear visibility.
  • Designed for ice fishing applications.

Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove the FL-8SE display unit, 19 Ice-Ducer transducer, battery, and all cables from the packaging.
  2. Battery Connection: Connect the power cables from the display unit to the battery terminals. Ensure correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  3. Transducer Connection: Plug the transducer cable into the designated port on the FL-8SE display unit.
  4. Mounting the Transducer:
    • For ice fishing, position the 19 Ice-Ducer transducer into the ice hole.
    • Adjust the depth of the transducer so it is submerged just below the ice, ensuring it hangs freely and is not obstructed.
  5. Positioning the Display Unit: Place the FL-8SE display unit on a stable, flat surface near the ice hole for easy viewing.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Turn the unit on using the power switch, typically located on the display unit. The LED display should illuminate.
  2. Adjust Gain: Use the GAIN control knob to adjust the sensitivity. Start with a lower setting and gradually increase it until you see a clear bottom reading and fish targets without excessive clutter.
  3. Select Range: Choose the appropriate depth range (e.g., 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 feet) using the RANGE selector. Select a range slightly greater than the current water depth.
  4. Interpret Display:
    • The FL-8SE uses a circular LED display. The outer edge represents the surface, and the center represents the maximum selected depth.
    • Solid red or orange bands typically indicate a strong return (e.g., bottom, large fish).
    • Green or yellow bands indicate weaker returns (e.g., smaller fish, baitfish, weeds).
    • Watch for flashing lights or changes in color patterns to identify fish and their movement.
  5. Interference Rejection: If experiencing interference from other sonar units, adjust the Interference Rejection (IR) setting. Cycle through the available settings (e.g., 1-5) to find the clearest display.
  6. Power Off: When finished, turn off the unit using the power switch.

Maintenance

  • Battery Care:
    • Fully charge the battery after each use to prolong its lifespan.
    • Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use.
    • Avoid completely draining the battery, as this can reduce its overall capacity.
  • Cleaning:
    • Wipe down the display unit and transducer with a soft, damp cloth after each use.
    • Ensure the transducer is free of ice buildup or debris before and after use.
    • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents on any part of the unit.
  • Storage: Store the fish finder in its carrying case in a dry, temperature-controlled environment.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power:
    • Check battery connections to ensure they are secure and correctly polarized.
    • Verify the battery is fully charged.
    • Inspect the power cable for any damage.
  • No Display/Weak Signal:
    • Ensure the transducer is fully submerged and free of ice or air bubbles.
    • Adjust the GAIN setting to increase sensitivity.
    • Check the transducer cable connection to the display unit.
    • Verify the correct depth range is selected.
  • Excessive Interference:
    • Adjust the Interference Rejection (IR) setting.
    • Move the transducer or the entire unit to a different location if possible, especially if fishing near other sonar devices.
