5. Setup

5.1 Power Connection

5.2 Setting the Clock

Upon initial power-up or after a power interruption, you may need to set the clock.

  1. In standby mode, press and hold the SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK button until the hour digits flash.
  2. Use the Tune Knob or Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to adjust the hour. Press SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK again to confirm.
  3. The minute digits will flash. Use the Tune Knob or Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to adjust the minutes. Press SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK to confirm.
  4. The clock is now set.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

Press the Power Button (⏻) to turn the unit on or off (standby mode).

6.2 Mode Selection

Press the Function Button repeatedly to cycle through the available modes: FM Radio, Bluetooth, USB, and AUX.

6.3 FM Radio Operation

  1. Select FM mode using the Function Button.
  2. Automatic Tuning: Press and hold the Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) for 2 seconds to automatically scan for the next available station.
  3. Manual Tuning: Rotate the Tune Knob to manually adjust the frequency.
  4. Saving Presets: To save a station, press and hold the SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK button until 'PXX' flashes on the display. Use the Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to select a preset number, then press SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK again to confirm.
  5. Recalling Presets: In FM mode, short press the Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to cycle through saved stations.

6.4 Bluetooth Pairing and Playback

  1. Select Bluetooth mode using the Function Button. The display will show 'BT' and flash, indicating it's in pairing mode.
  2. On your Bluetooth-enabled device (e.g., smartphone), enable Bluetooth and search for new devices.
  3. Select 'AKAI APR500RD' from the list of available devices.
  4. Once paired, the 'BT' indicator on the radio's display will stop flashing and remain solid.
  5. You can now play audio from your device through the AKAI APR500RD. Use the Play/Pause (⏸ / ⏸⏸) and Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) on the radio or your connected device to control playback.

6.5 USB Playback

  1. Insert a USB flash drive containing MP3 audio files into the USB port.
  2. Select USB mode using the Function Button. The unit will automatically begin playing the first compatible track.
  3. Use the Play/Pause (⏸ / ⏸⏸) button to pause or resume playback.
  4. Use the Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to skip to the previous or next track.

6.6 AUX Input

  1. Connect an external audio device (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the AUX IN jack using a 3.5mm audio cable (not included).
  2. Select AUX mode using the Function Button.
  3. Play audio from your connected device. The sound will be output through the AKAI APR500RD speakers. Control playback from your external device.

6.7 Setting Alarms

The unit features two independent alarms (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2).

  1. In standby mode, press and hold the ALARM1 or ALARM2 button until the alarm time flashes.
  2. Use the Tune Knob or Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶) to set the hour, then press the respective ALARM button to confirm.
  3. Set the minutes similarly, then press the ALARM button to confirm.
  4. Next, select the alarm source (Buzzer, FM, or USB) using the Tune Knob or Preset Buttons (◀◀ / ▶▶), then press the ALARM button to confirm.
  5. To activate/deactivate an alarm, short press the corresponding ALARM1 or ALARM2 button. An alarm icon will appear/disappear on the display.
  6. When an alarm sounds, press the SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK button for snooze function, or press the Power Button (⏻) to turn off the alarm.

6.8 Display Dimmer

In active or standby mode, short press the SNOOZE / DIM / MEM / CLOCK button repeatedly to adjust the brightness of the display.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before cleaning.

  • Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents as they may damage the finish.
  • Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the unit.
