1. Introduction

The Neewer FC-16 is a versatile 2.4GHz wireless trigger system designed for photographers seeking reliable remote control over their flash units and camera shutter. This system offers three primary functions: wireless flash triggering for studio strobes and speedlites, and wireless remote shutter release for compatible cameras. Its multi-channel design helps prevent interference, ensuring consistent performance in various shooting environments.

4. Setup

Before operation, ensure both the transmitter and receiver have batteries installed and are set to the desired channel.

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of both the transmitter and receiver.
  2. Slide open the battery cover.
  3. Insert 2x AAA alkaline batteries into each unit, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover securely.

5. Operating Modes

The FC-16 offers multiple operating modes for diverse photographic needs.

5.1 Wireless Flash/Studio Flash Trigger Mode

This mode allows you to wirelessly trigger external speedlites or studio strobes.

  1. Attach the FC-16 transmitter to your camera's hot shoe mount.
  2. Attach your flash unit (speedlite or studio strobe) to the hot shoe mount of the FC-16 receiver. For studio strobes, connect the PC Sync Cord from the receiver to the strobe's sync port.
  3. Ensure both the transmitter and receiver function switches are set to "FLASH" mode.
  4. Set the same channel on both the transmitter and receiver using the DIP switches (refer to Section 6).
  5. Position your flash unit as desired. The flash will fire synchronously with your camera's shutter when you take a photo.

5.2 Wireless Remote Control Mode (Shutter Release)

This mode allows you to wirelessly trigger your camera's shutter, ideal for preventing camera shake during long exposures or for self-portraits.

  1. Connect the appropriate N-Cable (N1 or N3, depending on your camera model) to the shutter release cable connection port on the FC-16 receiver.
  2. Connect the other end of the N-Cable to your camera's remote control input.
  3. Ensure both the transmitter and receiver function switches are set to "CAMERA" mode.
  4. Set the same channel on both the transmitter and receiver using the DIP switches (refer to Section 6).
  5. Use the transmitter to wirelessly autofocus (half-press the button) and take pictures (full-press the button).

5.3 Wired Remote Control Mode

For a wired remote control method, simply plug the N-Cable into the transmitter alone and connect it to your camera's remote control input. The receiver is not needed for this function.

5.4 Advanced Shutter Release Operations

The FC-16 can also be used for specific shutter release techniques:

  • Long-Exposure Shooting: Half-press the triggering button to focus, then fully press and hold for approximately 3 seconds. The camera will begin long exposure. Press again to stop.
  • Delay Shooting: Set the receiver's function switch to "Delay" mode. Half-press the triggering button to focus, then fully press. The indicator light will blink for 5 seconds, after which the camera will capture the photo.
  • Normal Shutter Shooting: Half-press the triggering button to focus, then fully press to take pictures.

6. Channel Selection

The FC-16 system features 16 selectable channels to prevent interference from other wireless devices or photographers. Both the transmitter and receiver must be set to the same channel for proper communication.

  1. Locate the channel DIP switches on the side of both the transmitter and receiver. There are four switches labeled 1, 2, 3, 4.
  2. Each switch can be set to either ON (up) or OFF (down). Different combinations of these four switches correspond to the 16 available channels.
  3. Choose a channel combination and ensure the DIP switches on both the transmitter and receiver match exactly. For example, if switch 1 is ON and switches 2, 3, 4 are OFF on the transmitter, the receiver must have the same setting.
  4. If you experience interference, try switching to a different channel combination.

7. Compatibility

9. Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Flash/Camera not triggering.
    Solution:
    1. Ensure both transmitter and receiver have fresh batteries and are powered ON.
