4. Setup and First Use

Before using your coffee maker for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Unpack all components and remove any packaging materials.
  2. Disassemble the coffee maker by unscrewing the upper chamber from the lower chamber. Remove the filter funnel and gasket.
  3. Wash all parts (upper chamber, lower chamber, filter funnel, gasket) with warm water and a mild detergent.
  4. Rinse all components thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
  5. Assemble the coffee maker and perform 2-3 conditioning brews using only water or old coffee grounds. Discard these initial brews. This process cleans the internal components and seasons the pot.
  6. Your coffee maker is now ready for brewing.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee with your Bergner Barista Coffee Maker:

  1. Fill Water Chamber: Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower water chamber. Fill the lower chamber with cold water up to the bottom edge of the safety valve. Do not fill above this level.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Insert the filter funnel into the lower water chamber. Fill the filter funnel with medium-fine ground coffee. Do not tamp the coffee; simply level it gently.
  3. Assemble: Carefully screw the upper chamber onto the lower chamber, ensuring a tight and secure seal. Do not overtighten.
  4. Heat: Place the assembled coffee maker on a suitable heat source. The induction bottom allows use on induction cooktops. Use medium heat to ensure a steady, gentle brew.
  5. Brewing: As the water heats, it will be forced through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber. You will hear a gurgling sound as the coffee fills the upper chamber.
  6. Serve: Once the upper chamber is full and the gurgling sound stops, remove the coffee maker from the heat source. Serve the freshly brewed coffee immediately.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your coffee maker:

  • Cool Down: Always allow the coffee maker to cool completely before disassembling and cleaning.
  • Discard Grounds: Discard the used coffee grounds from the filter funnel.
  • Wash: Wash all parts (upper chamber, lower chamber, filter funnel, gasket) with warm water. A mild dish soap can be used.
  • Dishwasher Safe: This coffee maker is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is recommended for best results and to preserve the finish.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the stainless steel finish.
  • Gasket Inspection: Regularly inspect the silicone gasket for signs of wear, cracking, or hardening. Replace it with the provided extra silicone ring when necessary to maintain a proper seal.
  • Safety Valve: Ensure the safety valve is clear of any coffee grounds or mineral deposits. If blocked, gently clean it with a small brush or toothpick.
  • Storage: Store the coffee maker disassembled or with the upper and lower chambers loosely screwed together to prevent the gasket from compressing and losing its seal over time.
