4. Installation Instructions

This section provides general instructions for installing an air gap cap. Always refer to local plumbing codes and consult a professional if you are unsure about any steps.

  1. Connect 7/8" Outlet Hose: Connect the 7/8" outlet hose (B) to the air gap using a #16 worm gear clamp. Leave the other end loose.
  2. Connect Dishwasher Discharge Hose: Connect the dishwasher 5/8" discharge hose (C) to the air gap using a worm gear clamp. Ensure hoses are not kinked.
  3. Position Air Gap Body: Push the air gap threaded neck through the deck hole. Adjust the nut so that threads protrude not more than 1/2" above the sink top.
  4. Connect Air Gap Outlet Hose to Disposer: Connect the air gap outlet hose to the disposer or dishwasher tailpiece above the water level of the sink trap. Use a #16 worm gear clamp. Avoid any low spots that could trap water.
  5. Install Top Washer and Top Nut: Install the top washer and top nut. Slip the D201-20 cap onto the air gap body with the relief opening facing the wall.

5. Maintenance

The Westbrass D201-20 air gap cap requires minimal maintenance. To keep its stainless steel finish looking new:

  • Regular Cleaning: Wipe the cap regularly with a soft, damp cloth to remove water spots and fingerprints.
  • Mild Soap: For more stubborn marks, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
  • Check for Obstructions: Periodically inspect the air gap body (underneath the cap) for any debris or blockages that might affect its function.

6. Troubleshooting

The D201-20 is a passive component (a cap) and does not typically require troubleshooting. Any issues related to water flow or drainage are usually associated with the air gap body or the connected plumbing lines, not the cap itself.

  • Water Leaking from Air Gap: If water is leaking from the air gap, the issue is likely with the air gap body or a blockage in the drain line, not the cap. Check the air gap body for cracks or improper sealing, and inspect the dishwasher drain hose for clogs.
  • Cap Not Fitting Securely: Ensure the air gap body is a standard size and that the cap is correctly aligned and pushed down fully.
