2. Safety Instructions
Always prioritize safety when operating any machinery. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or damage to the equipment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and appropriate work clothing. Avoid loose clothing, gloves, or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts.
- Work Area: Ensure your work area is clean, well-lit, and free from obstructions. Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the machine.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the machine is properly grounded. Do not operate in damp or wet conditions. Disconnect power before making adjustments, maintenance, or when leaving the machine unattended.
- Workpiece Security: Always ensure the workpiece is securely clamped in the chuck or between centers. An improperly secured workpiece can become a dangerous projectile.
- Tooling: Use only sharp, correctly ground tools. Ensure tools are properly installed in the tool post and securely tightened.
- Machine Operation: Never leave the machine running unattended. Do not attempt to stop the chuck by hand. Always use the emergency stop button in case of an immediate hazard.
- Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance as described in this manual. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.

4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the lathe and all accessories from their packaging. Inspect all components for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Report any damage to your supplier immediately.
4.2 Stand Assembly
Assemble the machine stand according to the provided instructions (if separate stand assembly manual is included). Ensure all fasteners are securely tightened to provide a stable base for the lathe.
4.3 Mounting the Lathe
Carefully lift the lathe onto the assembled stand. Secure the lathe to the stand using appropriate bolts and washers. Ensure the machine is firmly attached and does not wobble.
4.4 Electrical Connection
Connect the lathe to a standard 230V, 50Hz power supply. Ensure the electrical outlet is properly grounded and protected by a suitable circuit breaker. Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about the electrical connection.
4.5 Leveling
Use a precision spirit level to ensure the machine bed is perfectly level both longitudinally and transversely. Adjust the leveling feet on the stand as necessary. Proper leveling is crucial for achieving accurate turning results.
5. Operation
5.1 Controls Overview
Familiarize yourself with the main controls:
- Power Switch: Turns the machine on and off.
- Emergency Stop Button: Immediately cuts power to the machine in an emergency.
- Speed Potentiometer: Adjusts the spindle rotation speed.
- LCD Display: Shows the current spindle speed.
- Feed Levers: Engage longitudinal and cross feeds.
5.2 Speed Adjustment
The spindle speed can be continuously adjusted from 100 to 2000 RPM using the potentiometer. The current speed is displayed on the LCD screen. Select the appropriate speed based on the material, tool, and operation being performed.
5.3 Workpiece Mounting
For chuck work, open the 3-jaw chuck jaws and insert the workpiece. Ensure the workpiece is centered and clamped firmly to prevent it from slipping during operation. For longer workpieces, use the tailstock for support.
5.4 Tooling Installation
Install the appropriate turning tool into the 4-position tool post. Adjust the tool height so that the cutting edge is exactly on the center line of the workpiece. Securely tighten the tool post locking screws.
5.5 Longitudinal and Cross Feeds
The lathe features both longitudinal (0.02 to 0.22 mm) and cross (0.05 to 0.5 mm) automatic feeds. Engage the desired feed using the respective levers. Always ensure the feed is disengaged before stopping the machine or changing settings.
5.6 Thread Cutting
The ED 750FDQ is capable of cutting both metric (0.5 to 2.5 mm pitch) and imperial (8 to 56 TPI) threads. Refer to the gear change chart (typically located on the machine or in a separate appendix) for the correct gear settings required for specific thread pitches.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and accurate operation of your lathe. Always disconnect the machine from the power supply before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the machine thoroughly to remove chips, dust, and coolant residue. Pay special attention to the bedways, lead screws, and chuck.
- Lubrication: Regularly lubricate all moving parts, including the bedways, lead screws, gears, and bearings, with appropriate machine oil or grease. Refer to a lubrication chart for specific points and frequency.
- Chuck Maintenance: Keep the chuck jaws clean and lightly oiled to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
- Belt Tension: Periodically check the tension of the drive belts. Adjust if necessary to prevent slippage and ensure efficient power transmission.
- Electrical Inspection: Regularly inspect all electrical cables, connections, and switches for signs of wear, damage, or loose connections.
- Tool Post and Tailstock: Keep these components clean and ensure their locking mechanisms function correctly.
