  • Display: Shows current temperature, operating mode, day of the week, and time.
  • Rotary Dial: Used for manual temperature adjustment and navigating menus.
  • Mode/Menu Button: Accesses programming menus and switches between automatic and manual modes.
  • Boost/Light Button: Activates the Boost function for rapid heating or illuminates the display.
  • Battery Compartment: Located at the rear, holds two AA batteries.
  • Mounting Nut: Connects the thermostat to the radiator valve.

5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover located on the back of the thermostat.
  2. Insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover. The device will perform a self-test and prepare for installation.

5.2. Mounting on Radiator Valve

The Eqiva Radiator Thermostat is compatible with most common radiator valves with an M30 x 1.5 thread. An adapter for Danfoss RA valves is included. No special tools or draining of the heating system is required.

  1. Remove your existing mechanical radiator thermostat. This usually involves unscrewing a collar or nut.
  2. Check the valve type. If it's a Danfoss RA valve, use the provided adapter. For M30 x 1.5 valves, no adapter is needed.
  3. Place the Eqiva thermostat onto the valve. Ensure it sits flush.
  4. Tighten the mounting nut securely by hand. Do not overtighten.
  5. The thermostat will then perform an adaptation run to calibrate itself to the valve. This may take a few minutes.

5.3. Initial Configuration

Upon successful mounting and adaptation, the thermostat is ready for use. It comes with factory pre-programmed standard heating times. You can adjust these as follows:

  • Setting Date and Time: Use the rotary dial to set the current time and day of the week. Confirm each setting by pressing the 'Mode/Menu' button.
  • Setting Desired Temperature: In automatic mode, turn the rotary dial to adjust the target temperature. The display will show the new setting.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Basic Temperature Adjustment

In normal operating mode, simply turn the rotary dial to increase or decrease the desired room temperature. The new temperature will be displayed and maintained until the next programmed switching point or manual override.

6.2. Programming Weekly Schedule

The thermostat allows for individual programming of heating and lowering times with up to 3 heating phases and 7 programmable switching points per day.

  1. Press the 'Mode/Menu' button until the programming icon (e.g., a clock or calendar symbol) appears on the display.
  2. Use the rotary dial to select the day or block of days (e.g., Mon-Fri, Sat-Sun, Mon-Sun) you wish to program. Press 'Mode/Menu' to confirm.
  3. Set the start time and desired temperature for the first heating phase using the rotary dial and 'Mode/Menu' button.
  4. Repeat for subsequent heating phases and lowering times.
  5. Exit the programming menu by holding the 'Mode/Menu' button or waiting for a timeout.

6.3. Boost Function

Press the 'Boost/Light' button to activate the Boost function. The radiator will open fully for a few minutes to quickly heat the room. After the Boost period, the thermostat returns to its previously set temperature or programmed schedule.

6.4. Holiday and Party Function

This function allows you to set a specific temperature for a defined period, overriding the regular program. This is useful for holidays or when you need a consistent temperature for an event.

  1. Access the Holiday/Party function via the 'Mode/Menu' button.
  2. Set the desired temperature and the end date/time for this special period.
  3. Once the set time expires, the thermostat will automatically revert to its programmed weekly schedule.

6.5. Frost Protection

The thermostat automatically activates frost protection if the room temperature drops below approximately 5°C (41°F). This prevents pipes from freezing. The display will show a snowflake symbol.

6.6. Open Window Detection

If a sudden drop in temperature is detected (e.g., when a window is opened), the thermostat will temporarily close the radiator valve to prevent unnecessary heating. It will resume normal operation after a set period or when the temperature stabilizes.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Battery Replacement

When the battery symbol appears on the display, it indicates that the batteries are low and need to be replaced soon. The typical battery life is approximately 3 heating periods (not 3 years, as stated in some translations, but rather 3 heating seasons).

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
  2. Remove the old AA batteries.
  3. Insert new AA batteries, observing correct polarity.
  4. Replace the cover. The thermostat will re-initialize.

7.2. Cleaning

Clean the device with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or wet cloths, as these can damage the display or housing.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Display is blank or dim.Batteries are empty or incorrectly inserted.Replace batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Radiator does not heat despite high temperature setting.Valve pin is stuck; thermostat not properly adapted; frost protection active; open window detection active.Manually check valve pin for movement. Re-mount thermostat. Check for frost protection or open window symbols on display.
Thermostat makes noise during operation.Normal operation of the internal motor. This is normal. The Model N is designed to be particularly quiet.
Temperature in room does not match setting.Thermostat not calibrated; external heat sources/drafts; incorrect programming.Ensure proper adaptation. Check for drafts. Verify programmed schedule.
