Setup Guide

1. Unpacking and Placement

  • Carefully remove the M6si from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future transport.
  • Place the amplifier on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
  • Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for airflow, especially around the heat sinks on the sides.

2. Connecting Speakers

Connect your loudspeakers to the speaker terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (red to red, black to black) for both left and right channels. The M6si supports standard banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wire.

3. Connecting Audio Sources

The M6si offers a variety of input options:

  • Analog Inputs (RCA): Connect CD players, tuners, or other line-level sources to the 'CD', 'TUNER', 'AUX1', 'AUX2' inputs using high-quality RCA cables.
  • Phono Input (RCA): For turntables, connect to the 'PHONO' input. Ensure your turntable's ground wire is connected to the M6si's ground terminal if available. The M6si supports both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges; select the appropriate setting on the rear panel.
  • Balanced Input (XLR): For sources with balanced outputs, use the 'BALANCED' XLR inputs for optimal signal integrity.
  • USB Input: Connect a computer to the 'USB' input using a USB-B to USB-A cable. This input supports asynchronous 24-bit/96 kHz audio.

4. Power Connection

Connect the supplied AC power cord to the IEC inlet on the rear panel of the M6si, then plug it into a suitable wall outlet. Ensure the power switch on the rear panel is in the 'OFF' position before connecting to mains power.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

  • To power on the unit, first ensure all connections are secure.
  • Flip the main power switch on the rear panel to 'ON'.
  • Press the 'POWER' button on the front panel. The unit will go through a brief startup sequence.
  • To power off, press the 'POWER' button on the front panel, then flip the main power switch on the rear to 'OFF' for complete shutdown.

2. Input Selection

Select your desired audio source by pressing the corresponding input button on the front panel (e.g., 'CD', 'PHONO', 'USB', 'TUNER', 'AUX1', 'AUX2', 'BALANCED'). The selected input will be indicated by an illuminated LED.

3. Volume Control

Adjust the listening volume using the large central volume knob on the front panel. Rotate clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease. Start at a low volume level and gradually increase to a comfortable listening level.

4. Mute Function

Press the 'MUTE' button on the front panel to temporarily silence the audio output. Press it again to restore sound.

5. Phono Stage Configuration

If using the phono input, ensure the MM/MC switch on the rear panel (near the phono inputs) is set correctly for your turntable cartridge type (Moving Magnet or Moving Coil).

6. USB Audio Playback

When using the USB input, your computer should automatically detect the M6si as an audio output device. Select the M6si in your computer's sound settings for playback. No special drivers are typically required for most operating systems.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power cord before cleaning. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the finish.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked. Dust accumulation can affect performance and lead to overheating. Periodically clean dust from the vents using a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Internal Servicing: The M6si contains no user-serviceable parts. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Opening the unit will void the warranty.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your M6si amplifier, consult the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power:
    • Check that the power cord is securely connected to both the amplifier and the wall outlet.
    • Ensure the main power switch on the rear panel is in the 'ON' position.
    • Verify the wall outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
  • No Sound:
    • Confirm the correct input source is selected on the front panel.
    • Check all audio cables between the source and the amplifier, and between the amplifier and speakers, for secure connections.
    • Ensure the volume is not set to minimum or muted.
    • Verify that your speakers are properly connected and functional.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume level to see if distortion decreases.
    • Check speaker connections for correct polarity and secure fit.
    • Ensure source components are not outputting a distorted signal.
    • For phono input, confirm the MM/MC switch matches your cartridge type.
  • Hum or Buzz:
    • Ensure all components are properly grounded.
    • Try separating power cables from audio cables to reduce interference.
    • If using a turntable, ensure the ground wire is connected.
    • Test different outlets or power strips.
