4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Water Source Requirements
The Steripen Ultra is designed for use with clear water. If the water is cloudy or contains sediment, pre-filter it using a cloth or a dedicated pre-filter (sold separately) to ensure effective UV treatment.
4.2 Selecting Treatment Volume
- Press the activation button once to treat 1 liter of water (treatment time: 90 seconds).
- Press the activation button twice to treat 0.5 liters (16 fl. oz.) of water (treatment time: 48 seconds).
The selected volume will be displayed on the OLED screen.

4.3 Water Purification Process
- Fill your water bottle or container with the desired volume of clear water. Ensure the container has a minimum opening diameter of 20mm.
- Insert the Steripen Ultra's UV lamp into the water, ensuring the water sensor pins are submerged.
- Gently stir the water with the Steripen Ultra throughout the treatment cycle. This ensures all water is exposed to the UV light.
- The OLED screen will display a countdown timer. Once the treatment is complete, a smiley face icon will appear, indicating successful purification.
- The device will automatically shut off after treatment.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the UV Lamp
Regularly inspect the UV lamp for any residue or film. Clean the lamp with a soft cloth and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Ensure the lamp is completely dry before storage or next use.
5.2 Battery Care
To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. Recharge the battery as needed. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery has a partial charge (around 50%) and recharge every few months.
5.3 Storage
Store the Steripen Ultra in its neoprene carrying case in a cool, dry place when not in use. Keep the lamp cover on to protect the UV lamp.
6. Troubleshooting
- Device not turning on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a USB power source and check the charging indicator on the OLED screen.
- UV lamp not activating: Verify that the water sensor pins are fully submerged in water. Ensure the water is clear; excessive sediment can interfere with sensor operation.
- Treatment failure (no smiley face): This may indicate insufficient UV exposure. Ensure continuous stirring during treatment and that the water is clear. Re-treat the water if necessary.
- OLED display issues: If the display is damaged or not functioning, contact customer support for assistance.
