2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating this product. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the product or aquarium inhabitants.
- Drip Loop: Always create a drip loop with the power cord to prevent water from reaching the electrical outlet.
- Submersible Use Only: This heater is designed for full submersion in water. Do not operate it outside of water.
- Placement: Ensure the heater is placed in an area with adequate water circulation to ensure even heat distribution. Avoid contact with gravel, rocks, or decorations.
- Thermal Switch: The heater includes a thermal switch that automatically turns off if the internal temperature rises above a preset limit and reactivates once it cools. This is a safety feature.
- Unplug Before Maintenance: Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before performing any aquarium maintenance or removing the heater from the water.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present in the package:

- Position Mounting Bracket: Slide the mounting bracket over the heater to the indicated position.
- Place Heater in Aquarium: Submerge the heater completely in the aquarium water. Firmly press the suction cups against the inner glass surface to secure it.
- Choose an area with good water circulation.
- Ensure no part of the heater housing touches gravel, rocks, or decorations.
- The three-position viewing window allows you to rotate the heater for optimal temperature display visibility.

- Acclimation Period: Allow the heater to sit in the aquarium water for at least 15 minutes before plugging it in. This allows the heater to acclimate to the water temperature.
- Create Drip Loop: Before plugging the heater into an electrical outlet, ensure a drip loop is formed with the power cord to prevent water from traveling down the cord to the outlet.
- Plug In: Plug the heater into a grounded electrical outlet. The on/off indicator light will illuminate to confirm power is supplied.
5. Operating Instructions
The Marineland Precision Heater features an adjustable temperature dial for precise control.
- Set Desired Temperature: Turn the "Click Set" temperature select dial located at the top of the heater. Rotate the dial until the red indicator on the thermometer scale aligns with your desired temperature setting. Each click adjusts the temperature by 1 degree.
- Most tropical fish thrive in water temperatures between 78°F - 81°F (25.5°C - 27.2°C).
- The high-visibility display allows for easy reading of the set temperature.

- Monitor Temperature: Use a separate, accurate aquarium thermometer to monitor the actual water temperature. Adjust the heater dial incrementally if necessary to achieve and maintain the desired temperature.
- Tank Cover Recommendation: It is recommended to use an aquarium cover to minimize water temperature variances due to heat loss, which can affect heater performance and fish health.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your heater.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the heater's exterior to remove algae or mineral deposits. Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool for 15 minutes before removing it from the water for cleaning. Use a soft cloth or brush and aquarium-safe cleaning solutions if necessary.
- Inspect Cord: Regularly inspect the power cord for any signs of damage, fraying, or kinks. Do not use the heater if the cord is damaged.
- Check Suction Cups: Ensure the suction cups remain firmly attached to the aquarium glass. Replace them if they lose their grip.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Marineland Precision Heater, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Heater Not Heating:
- Check if the heater is plugged in securely and the power outlet is functional.
- Verify the on/off indicator light is illuminated.
- Ensure the set temperature on the dial is higher than the current aquarium water temperature.
- Confirm the heater is fully submerged.
- Allow sufficient time for the heater to raise the water temperature, especially in larger tanks or if the ambient temperature is very low.
- Temperature Fluctuations:
- Ensure adequate water circulation around the heater.
- Check if the aquarium has a cover to prevent heat loss.
- Verify the heater is appropriately sized for your aquarium volume (50-watt for up to 12 gallons).
- Use a reliable external thermometer to cross-reference the heater's display.
- Heater Light On, But No Heat:
- The thermal switch may have activated due to overheating. Unplug the heater, allow it to cool, and then re-evaluate placement and water circulation before plugging it back in.
- If the issue persists, the heating element may be faulty.
If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact Marineland customer support.
