Installation (Setup)

The Blue Octave LW62 speakers are designed for easy installation in existing walls or new construction. A unique wall-locking mounting system ensures a secure, vibration-free fit.

1. Planning Speaker Placement

Consider the acoustics of your room and the desired sound field. For home theater applications, refer to standard speaker placement guidelines (e.g., front left/right, center, surround left/right). Ensure there are no obstructions (e.g., studs, electrical wires, plumbing) behind the chosen wall locations.

2. Preparing the Wall Opening

  1. Mark the Cutout: Use the provided cutout template to mark the exact opening on your wall. The cutout size is 7.4" x 10.83".
  2. Blue Octave Home cutout template for LW62 speakers, showing dimensions 10.83 inches by 7.4 inches.

Image: The cutout template provided with Blue Octave Home speakers, specifically for models like LW62, indicating the required opening dimensions of 10.83" x 7.4" for installation.

  3. Cut the Opening: Carefully cut along the marked line using a drywall saw or appropriate tool.
  4. Run Speaker Wire: Route high-quality speaker wire (e.g., 16-gauge or thicker for longer runs) from your amplifier/receiver to each speaker opening. Leave enough slack for easy connection.

3. Connecting Speaker Wires

  1. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of your speaker wires. Twist the bare strands tightly.
  2. Connect to Terminals: The LW62 speakers feature spring-loaded terminals for easy connectivity. Press down on the terminal tab, insert the bare wire, and release the tab. Ensure correct polarity: connect the positive (+) terminal on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on your amplifier, and the negative (-) terminal on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on your amplifier.
  3. Rear view of a Blue Octave LW62 in-wall speaker showing the spring-loaded wire terminals and the woofer magnet.

4. Mounting the Speaker

  1. Insert Speaker: Carefully insert the speaker assembly into the wall opening.
  2. Engage Mounting Clamps: The integrated frame has a wall-lock mounting system. As you tighten the screws on the front baffle (usually located around the perimeter), the mounting clamps will pivot outwards and secure the speaker firmly to the drywall. Do not overtighten.
  3. Side view of a Blue Octave LW62 in-wall speaker showing the mounting clamps extended, ready to secure the speaker to the wall.

  4. Attach Grill: Once the speaker is securely mounted, attach the paintable grill. The grills are typically held in place by magnets or a friction fit.

Operation

Once installed and connected, your Blue Octave LW62 speakers are ready for use.

  • Power On: Turn on your amplifier/receiver and select the appropriate audio source.
  • Volume Control: Start with a low volume and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level.
  • Tweeter Adjustment: The 1-inch PEI dome tweeter is pivoting, allowing you to direct the high frequencies towards your primary listening area for optimized sound imaging. Gently push the edge of the tweeter to adjust its angle.
  • Front view of a Blue Octave LW62 in-wall speaker with the grill removed, showing the 6.5-inch blue woofer and the pivoting tweeter.

  • Break-in Period: Like most new speakers, the LW62 may benefit from a break-in period of several hours of normal use to achieve optimal sound performance.

Maintenance

Your Blue Octave LW62 speakers require minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Dust the speaker grills and frames periodically with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but avoid excessive moisture.
  • Paintable Grills: The grills and frames are paintable to match your decor. If painting, ensure the paint is applied thinly and evenly to avoid clogging the grill perforations, which could affect sound quality. Remove the grill from the speaker before painting.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the speaker's finish or components.
