Aquila AQ-10

Aquila AQ-10 New Nylgut Tenor Ukulele Strings

Instruction Manual

Introduction

Aquila New Nylgut ukulele strings are crafted from a unique synthetic composite, designed to offer a superior sound and stable tuning compared to traditional nylon strings. They are engineered to absorb less moisture, which contributes to improved intonation and accuracy. These strings provide a rich, resonant tone with an excellent player feel, emulating the characteristics of traditional gut strings.

Setup and Installation

  1. Preparation: Ensure your ukulele is clean and free of old string residue.
  2. String Identification: The Aquila AQ-10 set includes four strings for tenor ukuleles, designed for High G tuning. Refer to the packaging for specific string identification, often indicated by colored ends or markings.

  4. Installation: Carefully remove one old string at a time and replace it with the corresponding new Aquila Nylgut string. Securely tie the string to the bridge and wind it onto the tuning peg, ensuring it is taut but not overly tight.
  5. Initial Stretching: New Aquila Nylgut strings will stretch significantly during the first few days of use. This is normal. To help them settle faster, gently pull each string away from the fretboard after installation and tuning. Repeat this process as necessary until the strings hold their tune consistently.

Operating and Performance

  • Tuning: Tune your ukulele to standard High G tuning (G-C-E-A). Due to the initial stretching phase, frequent tuning will be required until the strings stabilize.
  • Tone: Experience the sweet, smooth sound and full tone that these strings are designed to produce, offering excellent attack and resonance.
  • Playability: The accurately gauged strings with varying densities contribute to precise intonation across the fretboard, enhancing overall playability.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe down your strings with a clean, dry cloth after each playing session to remove oils and dirt, which can prolong string life and maintain tone.
  • Storage: When not in use, store your ukulele in a stable environment, avoiding extreme temperature and humidity changes, which can affect string tension and wood stability.

Troubleshooting

  • Strings Not Holding Tune: This is common with new Nylgut strings. Continue the initial stretching process by gently pulling the strings and re-tuning. It may take several days for them to fully stabilize.
  • Dull Sound: If strings sound dull after prolonged use, they may need replacement. String life varies based on playing frequency and individual body chemistry.
