1. Introduction

The StarTech.com BOX4HDECP is a conference table connectivity pop-up box designed to integrate various audio/video and data ports into a conference room table. This device allows users to connect a VGA, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, or composite video source to an HDMI display, providing a centralized and concealed connectivity solution. It automatically converts any attached audio/video source device into a single HDMI output.

3. Installation and Setup

Proper installation is crucial for the functionality and aesthetics of the BOX4HDECP. This device is designed for in-table mounting.

3.1 Site Preparation

  1. Ensure the chosen location on the conference table has sufficient clearance beneath for the device and cable routing.
  2. Measure and mark the cutout area on the table surface according to the dimensions provided in the product specifications or the included template. A typical cutout size is approximately 6.7 inches (17 cm) in length and 3.9 inches (10 cm) in width.
  3. Carefully cut the opening in the table using appropriate tools. Ensure clean edges.

3.2 Device Mounting

  1. Insert the BOX4HDECP unit into the prepared cutout from the top of the table.
  2. From underneath the table, secure the unit using the provided mounting clamps and screws. Tighten the screws until the unit is firmly seated and flush with the table surface.

3.3 Cable Connections

  1. Power Connection: Connect the universal power adapter to the DC 12V input port on the rear of the BOX4HDECP. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet.
  2. HDMI Output: Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI Out port on the rear of the BOX4HDECP to your display device (e.g., projector, monitor).
  3. Ethernet Pass-through: If network connectivity is desired, connect an Ethernet cable from your network source to the Ethernet port on the rear of the BOX4HDECP.

4. Operating Instructions

The BOX4HDECP is designed for ease of use in a conference environment.

4.1 Accessing Ports

To access the input ports, gently press the top panel of the unit. The panel will pop up, revealing the various connectivity options.

4.2 Connecting Source Devices

Connect your laptop or mobile device to the appropriate input port:

  • HDMI: Use the HDMI In port for devices with HDMI output.
  • VGA: Use the VGA port for devices with VGA output, along with the 3.5mm audio input for sound.
  • Mini DisplayPort (mDP): Use the Mini DP In port for devices with mDP output.
  • Composite Video: Use the Video (yellow RCA) and Audio-L/R (white/red RCA) ports for composite video sources.
  • USB Charging: Connect your mobile device to the USB Charge port for power.
  • Ethernet: Connect your device to the Ethernet port for wired network access.

The BOX4HDECP automatically detects the most recently connected video source and outputs it to the connected HDMI display. No manual switching is required.

4.3 Concealing Ports

When not in use, gently push down the top panel until it clicks into place, concealing the ports within the table for a tidy appearance.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of your BOX4HDECP, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Dust Removal: Periodically inspect the ports for dust accumulation. Use compressed air to gently clear any debris.
  • Cable Management: Ensure that cables connected to the unit are not excessively strained or bent, which can lead to damage.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within its specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BOX4HDECP, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Video Output:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the unit and a working power outlet.
    • Verify that the HDMI output cable is securely connected to both the BOX4HDECP and the display device.
    • Check the input source cable (HDMI, VGA, mDP, Composite) is firmly connected to the BOX4HDECP and the source device.
    • Confirm the display device is set to the correct HDMI input.
    • Try connecting a different source device or cable to isolate the problem.
  • No Audio Output:
    • If using VGA or Composite inputs, ensure the 3.5mm audio or RCA audio cables are correctly connected.
    • Check the audio settings on your source device and display.
    • Verify the volume levels on both the source and display.
  • USB Charging Not Working:
    • Ensure the BOX4HDECP is powered on.
    • Try a different USB cable or device to confirm the issue is not with the cable or device.
  • Ethernet Connectivity Issues:
    • Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the BOX4HDECP and your network source.
    • Check network settings on your connected device.
    • Confirm the network source is active and functioning.
  • Unit Not Popping Up/Down Smoothly:
    • Ensure no obstructions are preventing the mechanism from moving freely.
    • Check for any debris around the edges of the pop-up panel.
