1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Laser Radiation

The Hilti PD-E emits Class 2 (Class II) laser radiation. Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam. Do not stare into the beam or view directly with optical instruments.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the device.
  2. Open the cover.
  3. Insert two (2) AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The device uses 2 AAA batteries, which are included, providing power for up to 5000 measurements.

4.2 Initial Power On

Press the power button () to turn on the device. The display will illuminate, indicating it is ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Distance Measurement

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Point the laser beam at the target object.
  3. Press the measurement button (usually a large central button or labeled "MEAS"). The laser will emit a beam.
  4. The measured distance will appear on the display.

5.2 Continuous Measurement (Tracking)

For continuous measurement, press and hold the measurement button. The device will continuously update the distance as you move it, displaying the minimum and maximum values.

5.3 Area and Volume Measurement

Refer to the on-screen menu or specific function buttons for area and volume calculations. Typically, you will measure two or three sides, and the device will calculate the area or volume automatically.

5.4 Indirect Measurement (Pythagoras)

The tilt sensor and advanced functions allow for indirect measurements, such as calculating heights or distances where direct measurement is not possible. Consult the device's on-screen prompts for these functions.

5.5 Data Memory

The device stores the last 30 measurements. Use the navigation buttons to scroll through the stored data.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a clean, soft, damp cloth.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents.
  • Clean the optical components (laser exit and receiver lens) carefully with a soft cloth, similar to cleaning camera lenses.

6.2 Storage

  • Store the device in its soft case when not in use.
  • Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Store in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting
