2. Safety Information
WARNING: Always disconnect power to the appliance before performing any installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, injury, or death.
Ensure the appliance is cool to the touch before beginning any work. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection.

4. Installation and Setup
The installation of the control board is straightforward. However, it is crucial to set up the control board correctly based on your specific stove model before installation.
4.1. Pre-Installation Steps
- Disconnect Power: Ensure your pellet stove is unplugged from the wall outlet and has completely cooled down.
- Access Control Box: Locate and open the access panel to the control box area on your stove.
- Remove Old Control Board: Carefully disconnect all wires from the old control board and remove it. Note the orientation and connections for reassembly.
- Grounding Kit: If your older unit does not have proper grounding for the thermocouple, use the included thermocouple grounding wires. The instructions will provide specific guidance for connecting these wires to ensure proper grounding.

4.2. Setting the Model Dial
The new control board features a small plastic dial that must be set to the correct position corresponding to your stove model. This dial has settings from 0 to 7. A small flathead or precision screwdriver can be used to adjust this dial.

- Setting 0 (Diagnostic Mode): The control board comes from the factory set at 0. This is a diagnostic mode used for testing components. The stove will not operate correctly in this mode.
- Settings 1 & 2: Used for 1200 Series (1200 Freestanding and 1200 Insert).
- Settings 4 & 5: Used for Contour models.
- Settings 6 & 7: Used for Santa Fe (Freestanding and Insert) and Castile (Freestanding and Insert) models.
The higher number in each pair (e.g., 2 for 1200 series, 5 for Contour, 7 for Santa Fe/Castile) provides a 10% increase in fuel feed rate. This adjustment can be useful if you are burning denser or longer pellets and require more fuel in the firepot. For most standard pellets and installations, the lower setting (e.g., 1, 4, 6) is usually correct.
4.3. Post-Installation Verification
After setting the dial and installing the control board, plug the stove back into the wall. The control board will emit a series of blinks to indicate correct setup:
- Blue Blink: A blue blink sequence indicates that the control board is set up correctly based on the model.
- Green Light: The internal light will be green when the thermocouple has reached 200°F.
- Red Light: The internal light will turn red once the thermocouple has reached 600°F.
- Amber Blink: If there is an issue with the thermocouple, the internal light will turn amber and flash three times, repeating the process. If you observe this, perform a physical inspection of the thermocouple.
Ensure the main electronic strip (receptor/indicator) on the control board is securely plugged into the junction box. It should slide in easily with a gentle wiggle until it locks into place. Do not force it.
5. Operating Principles
The 3 Speed Control Box regulates the operation of your pellet stove by controlling the auger motor and fans based on temperature readings from the thermocouple. Once installed and correctly configured, the control box will manage the pellet feed and fan speeds to maintain optimal burning conditions.
Refer to your specific pellet stove's owner's manual for detailed operating instructions, including starting, stopping, and adjusting heat settings, as these are managed by the stove's primary controls which interface with this control box.
6. Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the control box and its connections for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections.
- Keep Dry: Ensure the control box area remains dry and free from moisture to prevent damage to electronic components.
- Cleanliness: Keep the area around the control box free from dust, debris, and pellet fines, which can interfere with its operation or cause overheating.
- Thermocouple Check: Regularly check the thermocouple for proper placement and any buildup that might affect its temperature readings.
7. Troubleshooting
- Stove Not Operating Correctly:
- Verify the model dial setting on the control board matches your stove model (refer to Section 4.2).
- Check for the blue blink sequence after plugging in the stove to confirm correct setup.
- Amber Blinking Light (Thermocouple Issue):
- If the internal light flashes amber three times, it indicates a thermocouple issue.
- Perform a physical inspection of the thermocouple. Ensure it is securely in place and properly positioned over the firepot.
- Check the thermocouple wires for any damage or loose connections.
- If the issue persists after inspection, the thermocouple itself may need replacement.
- No Power/Intermittent Operation:
- Ensure the stove is securely plugged into a working outlet.
- Check all connections to the control board and within the junction box for tightness.
- Verify that the control board is fully seated in its receptacle.
