4. Setup
4.1 Attaching the Reel to a Fishing Rod
- Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod.
- Tighten the reel seat's locking nuts until the reel is firmly secured and does not wobble. Do not overtighten.
4.2 Spooling Fishing Line
Proper line spooling is crucial for optimal performance.
- Pass the fishing line through the rod guides, starting from the tip.
- Tie the line to the reel's spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the bail (if applicable) or engage the level wind.

5. Operating the Reel
5.1 Drag System Adjustment
The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it. Adjust the drag before casting.
- To increase drag, turn the drag star/knob clockwise.
- To decrease drag, turn the drag star/knob counter-clockwise.
- A good starting point for drag is about 25-30% of your line's breaking strength.
5.2 Casting
- Engage the free spool lever (often labeled "ON" or "Free Spool") to allow the line to run freely.
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Perform your casting motion.
- As the lure or bait approaches the target, gently feather the spool with your thumb to control the cast distance and prevent backlashes.
- Once the lure hits the water, disengage the free spool lever by turning the handle slightly or pressing the lever back to the "OFF" position.

5.3 Retrieving Line
Turn the handle clockwise to retrieve the line. The level wind system will guide the line evenly onto the spool.
