Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Placement
Carefully remove the printer from its packaging. Ensure all protective tapes and packing materials are removed from the exterior and interior of the device. Place the printer on a stable, flat surface with adequate space for paper loading and output, and proper ventilation.
2. Connecting to Power
Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet. Press the power button to turn on the printer. The control panel will illuminate.
3. Installing Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door. The print carriage will move to the center.
- Unpack each HP 932/933 ink cartridge (Black, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta) and remove the orange pull tab.
- Insert each cartridge into its corresponding slot, ensuring it clicks into place. Match the color labels on the cartridges with the labels on the carriage.
- Close the ink cartridge access door.
4. Loading Paper
Extend the input tray and adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size. Load paper with the print side facing down. The printer supports various sizes, including 3x5 inches up to 13x19 inches. Ensure the paper stack does not exceed the maximum fill line.
5. Network Connection
- Wireless Connection: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Wireless Setup Wizard. Select your network name (SSID) and enter the network password.
- Ethernet Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router or network switch to the Ethernet port on the rear of the printer.
6. Software Installation
Insert the provided software CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive, or download the latest drivers and software from the official HP support website. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. This software enables full functionality, including printing, scanning, and faxing from your computer.
Operating Instructions
Printing
- From a Computer: Open the document or image you wish to print. Select "Print" from the application's File menu. Choose the HP OfficeJet 7612, adjust print settings (e.g., paper size, quality, duplex), and click "Print."
- Mobile Printing (HP ePrint): Ensure your printer is connected to the internet. Send an email with the document attached to your printer's unique HP ePrint email address.
- Wireless Direct Printing: Connect your mobile device directly to the printer's wireless direct signal (e.g., "HP-Print-XX-OfficeJet 7612") without needing a router.
- Wide-Format Printing: Load appropriate wide-format paper (up to 13x19 inches) into the input tray. Select the correct paper size in your print settings before sending the print job.
- Automatic Two-Sided (Duplex) Printing: This feature is supported automatically. When printing from your computer, select the two-sided printing option in the print driver settings.
Copying
Place the original document face-down on the scanner glass or face-up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). On the control panel, select "Copy." Adjust settings such as number of copies, color/black, and paper size, then press "Start Copy."
Scanning
Place the original document on the scanner glass or in the ADF. On the control panel, select "Scan." Choose your scan destination (e.g., computer, email, network folder) and adjust scan settings (e.g., resolution, file type), then press "Start Scan."
Faxing
Connect a phone line to the printer's "1-LINE" port. On the control panel, select "Fax." Enter the recipient's fax number, load the document, and press "Start Fax."
Maintenance
Ink Cartridge Replacement
When an ink cartridge is low or empty, a message will appear on the control panel. Replace cartridges as described in the "Setup" section. Use only Original HP ink cartridges for optimal performance and print quality.
Printhead Cleaning
If print quality issues such as streaks or faded colors occur, perform a printhead cleaning from the printer's control panel or through the HP printer software on your computer. This process uses ink, so perform it only when necessary.
Clearing Paper Jams
If a paper jam occurs, the control panel will display an error message. Carefully open all access doors (front, rear, and top) and gently pull out any jammed paper in the direction of the paper path. Avoid tearing the paper to prevent small pieces from remaining inside the printer.
Cleaning the Scanner Glass
To ensure clear scans and copies, regularly clean the scanner glass and the white backing strip with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass.
Firmware Updates
Periodically check for and install firmware updates from the HP support website. Firmware updates can improve printer performance, add new features, and resolve known issues.
Troubleshooting
Printer Offline Message
If your printer shows as "offline," ensure it is powered on and connected to the network. For wireless connections, verify the Wi-Fi signal strength and that the printer is connected to the correct network. Restarting both the printer and your computer/router can often resolve this issue. If the problem persists, check your computer's printer settings to ensure the correct printer is selected and not set to "Use Printer Offline."
Print Quality Issues
Poor print quality (streaks, faded text, incorrect colors) can be caused by low ink levels, clogged printheads, or incorrect paper type settings. Check ink levels, perform a printhead cleaning, and ensure your print settings match the paper loaded.
Paper Feed Problems
If paper is not feeding correctly or jams frequently, ensure the paper is loaded correctly and the paper guides are snug against the stack. Avoid overfilling the paper tray. Inspect the paper path for any foreign objects or torn paper pieces.
Connectivity Problems
If you cannot connect to the printer wirelessly or via Ethernet, verify network cables are securely connected, or re-run the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer. Ensure your computer and printer are on the same network. Firewall settings on your computer may also block communication; temporarily disable them for testing purposes if necessary.
