2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. If you are unsure about any steps, it is recommended to consult a professional car audio installer.

2.1 Before You Begin:

  • Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Gather necessary tools: screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimpers, drill (if needed), mounting hardware.
  • Verify speaker size and mounting depth (Woofer Mounting Depth: 2.063 inches) are compatible with your vehicle's speaker locations.

2.2 Installation Steps:

  1. Remove Existing Speakers: Carefully remove door panels or speaker grilles to access the factory speakers. Disconnect the wiring.
  2. Prepare Mounting Location: Clean the mounting surface. If necessary, use the provided template (if included) to mark and drill new mounting holes. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the speaker's depth.
  3. Connect Wiring: Connect the positive (+) speaker wire from your amplifier/head unit to the positive terminal on the THUNDER65 speaker, and the negative (-) wire to the negative terminal. Ensure connections are secure and insulated.
  4. Mount Speakers: Place the THUNDER65 speakers into the mounting location. Secure them using the provided screws or appropriate mounting hardware. Do not overtighten.
  5. Adjust Tweeter (Optional): The pivoting tweeter can be angled up to 15° to direct sound towards the listening position for improved imaging. Gently adjust the tweeter dome to the desired angle.
  6. Reassemble: Reinstall speaker grilles and door panels.
  7. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the vehicle's battery.

3. Operation

Once installed, the MTX THUNDER65 speakers operate as part of your car's audio system.

  1. Power On: Turn on your car's head unit or amplifier.
  2. Audio Source: Select your desired audio source (radio, CD, Bluetooth, etc.).
  3. Volume Adjustment: Start with the volume low and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level. Avoid excessively high volumes that cause distortion, as this can damage the speakers.
  4. Audio Settings: Adjust bass, treble, balance, and fader settings on your head unit or amplifier to optimize sound quality to your preference. The THUNDER65 speakers are designed for rich bass, so fine-tuning these settings can enhance their performance.

4. Maintenance

The MTX THUNDER65 speakers require minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the speaker grilles and surrounds with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Environmental Protection: While designed for car environments, avoid exposing speakers to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Connection Check: Occasionally check wiring connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion.
  • Avoid Overpowering: Do not continuously play audio at distortion levels, as this can lead to speaker damage.
